“charming, cozy place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2012

We found this motel via an i-Site inquiry. The i-Sites are conveniently located along the touris track in New Zealan; they provide tourist information and make bookings at no charge. Addison Court is just finishing an upgrade. It is a charming place. Our one bedroom unit (bedroom, bath, living room with kitchenette) was well furnished and very nice. The management was friendly and helpful.

I wasn't able to connect to the Internet, but manager allowed me to use the office computer. But the big thing was that we were going to take the senic train the next morning and the manager took us to the train station. She had also allowed us to check in early so that we could dump the car at the airport and told us to take a shuttle bus back which was a lot cheaper than a cab.

The rooms were average and average price, but it did survive a 5.1 earthguake that night. Christchurch had the big earthquake that distroyed the center of town a couple of weeks ealier, so this after shock was located directly under the hotel, and the load boom and violent shaking of the hotel was a little unnerving but no damage to us or the hotel.

Stayed at Addington Court Motel with friends in separate rooms for 2 nights at the beginning of our 2 week holiday and again for the final 2 nights at the end of our holiday. Nev and Lou (the owners) were so helpful and obliging. We didn't have a car the first 2 nights, they ordered Chinese for us at our request and drove down a picked it up for us then drove all 4 of us with luggage to the train station the next morning. Lovely, friendly people. The motel rooms were roomy with kitchenette and very clean. The only thing that was a little negative was that it happened to be in the low 30's when we were there and no air con or fans. Maybe just a cheap pedestal fan in the rooms for those hot days, but otherwise would definitely recommend this motel. If you stay here ask them about the Chinese restaurant down the road. They picked the order up for us but when we returned at the end of our holiday we had a hire car, so we drove down the road and dined in at the restaurant. The food was amazing and full of Asian diners which is always a good sign

We stayed 2 nights before and after our trip around the bottom of South Island Nov/Dec 2010.
If you don't want to be right in the city centre it's fine. Although it's not luxurious it was clean and comfortable and the owners were brilliant about giving us a lift to and from the station. They also looked after our 4 bags for the day as our flight wasn't until 8.30pm. They wouldn't accept anything for doing this.
We weren't expecting to find everything supplied ie. jug of milk, toaster, kettle, double hob, tea towels, dish cloth, washing up liquid, soap, shampoo as well as the usual cutlery and crockery.
Used their launderette which only cost $2 NZ for a wash and another $2NZ for the drier which lasted for ages. Soap powder was free. Ironing board in there and another in our room.
We said not to worry but they insisted on giving us clean towels etc daily. We had a downstairs room with a wet room which was great for my husband as he tends to get water everwhere! Good sound proofing on the kitchen window even though the road was busy at times at the back.
The only downside for some people may be that they had some (friendly) workmen staying that are repairing the earthquake damage around Christchurch. They went off to work early but then it didn't worry us too much as we get up early at home anyway and still seem to when on holiday too!!
Good bus service just around the corner into the main city centre. We did walk both ways one day via Hagley Park but it got a bit hot. Handy supermarket and petrol station down the road, up the road were a few small shops, choice of exotic little restaurants.
Dissapointed that there weren't any races on whilst we were there as not far from the stadium.
We're not loaded and wouldn't want 'posh', suited us fine. We told them we'd stay there again if we ever save enough to go to NZ from UK again.
