“Our Favorite B&B in New Zealand!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2011

The website doesn't do this place justice. Our absolute favorite of all the B&Bs in our 3 week New Zealand tour! Location is about 20 minutes outside Christchurch. A straight shot into the heart of the City but without any of the congestion. It was a great base for journeys to Christchurch, Akoara, the TransAlpine train to Greymouth and back, and the wine country. The accommodations beat even a 5 star hotel -- absolute comfort, peace and quiet and is built so solidly we didn't feel the 4.2 earthquake! There is a private elegant livingroom or you can join Kathy and Grant. And after the first hour, it is hard not to spend all your time with them. They truly enjoyed introducing us to special treats like English breakfasts and pavlova -- Kathy is the pavlova queen! -- and doing extra things like the jar of Grant's fabulous shortbread in our room or dropping us off and picking us up from the train station so we wouldn't have to leave our car. We loved the animals and we had to beg to let them come into the livingroom with us. Kathy and Grant had to believe we REALLY wanted the dogs around before they would allow them free reign. No worries if you aren't an animal lover. This stay rates our highest recommendation!

“A little spot of heaven in the country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2011

We rang in the New Year with Grant, Kathy and Lottie, Rosa, and Bradley their three adorable dogs. Their home is absolutely beautiful in a gorgeous country setting with a winding driveway, ponds, river, immaculate and lush gardens complete with ducks and even peacocks. We were treated to exquisite NZ food each day including our New Year dinner. Grant and Kathy are excellent cooks and catered to our every whim! We even got to ride in Grant's antique car. This was our absolute favorite place--elegant and also relaxing for four days. Wish we could have stayed longer!! We made new friends and hope to see them in US someday:) Barbara and Doug Sloan

“A day on the country!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2011

We had a really nice time at Silverstream Lodge. The Lodge is new and the rooms are stylish and very comfortable. We loved their homemade meals made of vegetables from the garden and eggs from their free range chickens. Best English-breakfast we ever had! The children were allowed to collect the eggs in the evening and also fhelp feeding the animals. We really enjoyed the nice, big garden where the children could play and run around. It was also very nice to row/ paddle on the Silverstream. Great hospitallity!

Thank you for your lovely review, the time taken to do this is appreciated not only by ourselves but I am sure by fellow travelers. We very much enjoyed sharing SIlverstream with such a delightful family, the highlight would have to have been showing the children where eggs came from and then being able to cook them so they could enjoy fresh eggs for breakfast. Such a fun visit for us and so good to be part of your New Zealand holiday.

“A truly amazing place”

We were looking for a place to stay over Christmas. We had rented a campervan for 9 days and wanted to stay in a nice B&B after that. It was almost impossible to find a nice place in the Christchurch area (but also in other places in New Zealand), that would take children under the age of 12. I sent an e-mail to Silverstream Lodge as they had no restrictions for children and I got such a lovely and warm reply that we immediately booked it. We stayed for 4 nights - and over Christmas. It is truly an amazing place. It has beautiful gardens with a river next to it - and we tried out their kayaks. There is just a tranquility around and such a positive and calming energy that you feel you could stay forever. The rooms are beautiful and a lot of detail is put into them. Yummy breakfasts with eggs from their own henhouse. They also offer dinner (including Christmas dinner) - which again is utterly yummy. The hosts are just wonderful. They are very friendly and outgoing and share their beautiful house with the guests. It was not like staying in a B&B, it felt like staying with family. If it was closer to us I'd stay there more often even to just sit in their garden and experience this amazingly peaceful and positive energy.

“Everybody deserves to spoil themselves with a little bit of luxury that can be found at Silverstream Lodge.”

On our visit to Christchurch we decided to stay at Silverstream Lodge for a week and explore the region from there. What a great decision that was! Hosts Kathy and Grant warmly welcomed us and were a wealth of knowledge both in terms of providing directions to our chosen destinations as well as places of interest along the way. Everything about Silverstream Lodge is superb - the hosts, the food, the accommodation, the animals and the location. You owe it to yourself to stay at least one night at Silverstream - you won't be disappointed. It's better than a home away from home!
