“A Riccarton beauty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2011

Great welcome, spacious rooms, good facilities including really nice showers, air con, free internet access, comfortable beds, plus a clean and tidy presentation .

Excellently located for Riccarton Mall and a short walk to local restaurants.

We have been staying here for the last couple of months while on business in Christchurch and found the Amore an excellent base. The owners have been very accommodating to our requests and any problem is dealt with promptly.

Couldn't recommend a better motel in Christchurch.

What a great place to stay. Modern, spacious, and extremly friendly staff. It is on the main street, but from our two bed unit (more like an apartment) we had no road noise. Riccarton Shopping Center is right across the road with everything you could need. Will defienlty come back to stay.

Ok to be fair, this review comes after 2 years of having stayed there. Not sure if it has become better/worse since. But I'll base it on what I remember - I pretty much like this place.

Upon checking in, reception asked if we wanted some milk (I realise quite a few motels/hostels we checked into asked the same). Room was on the 1st floor, very new and clean. Has a small kitchen in the same space, if you want to cook. A rather large supermarket chain and petrol kiosk was just 5 mins walk away, very convenient.

If this is a motel, I think it (was) way better than most other motels I've stayed in, which had rather outdated furniture/design of the room.

We stayed here just one night, wish it was longer. James in Reception was very friendly & helpful. Rooms large, modern and although on a very busy road were very quiet. Beds were very comfy, spa bath in room was very welcome. Great location within walking distance of a very large shopping centre, supermarket etc. Definetly be returning when need a night or two in Christchurch

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2009

20 Jan 2009
Stayed here for 3 nights in a two bedroom unit. Unit was comfortable for three adults with a spa bath. Flat screen TV's in lounge area and main bedroom. Bedrooms were not large but still comfortable with great beds.

Motel complex seemed quite new and is on a main road with a shopping centre and bus stop 2 mins walk away.

Although the motel was not in the centre of town it only was a short bus ride away and was also close to the airport.

Staff were friendly and helpful.

Over all very happy with our decision to stay at this motel and would not hesitate to book again. Good value for money.

  • Liked — Very handy to what we needed to do
  • Disliked — Another mirror in unit would have been handy

There isn't anything actually wrong with 168 Trendz on Riccarton (unless you count the slightly daft name), but it really isn't anything special. On the plus side, its decor is neutral and the place is generally clean and tidy. On the negative, it's a fairly cheaply made building (if it's that new, the bathroom lock shouldn't fall off, and there shouldn't be visible filler holes in the wall), and it's got no character or soul. Everything (apart from the bathroom door lock) worked, it was ok value, staff were fine, but I wouldn't go expecting to be blown over - its just another motel. Plus, Riccarton is a bit of a dump, unless you like malls and MacDonalds.

  • Liked — Neutral decor, ok facilities
  • Disliked — Riccarton!

A last minute decision to stay in Christchurch for an extra day found us at 168 Trendz.

We got a bargain for $99 on wotif, so was not expecting much – but to our delight (despite the room being very small – we stayed in an Executive Suite), it had all the modern necessities.

The room had a luxury feel to it, the kitchen facilities (though limited - microwave/fridge/stove) are modern. The bathroom is quite large for a “just a room”. More importantly the room was clean. It really felt that we were in an upscale hotel, just small.

Internet is only $5 per night, (no cap). There is a shopping centre down the road for all necessary goods and services, and an abundance of restaurants along the road. (All at good value.)

For a motel, incredible value, in fact upon returning to Christchurch to fly out in a few days, we booked in again because it was such a good deal.

  • Liked — Modern and clean
  • Disliked — It's a motel.
