“Good place to spend a night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

It is hard to have any complaints about this place. The rooms were spacious and of a good standard. The location was central and easy to find with easy parking. All in all a good place to stay.

We ate out so can not comment on the restaurant. The bar was expensive though.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

We stayed at the Chateau for 2 nights as part of our trip around the South Island. When we arrived, we were greeted by very friendly reception staff, and were checked in by Heather. We were put in a Classic Suite facing the road on the first floor, and first impressions of the room/bathroom, we were very disappointed, as we were not aware of the renovations that were being done to the rooms (the bathroom was very dated and did not reflect a 5 star hotel), and the noise from the road was very loud, with no privacy from the street (although the views over the park were nice). Heather called our room to see if we were happy with it, and of course we asked to be moved, in which she gave us a free upgrade to a deluxe suite (Suite 14), which faced the pool, and had no road noise (no privacy, so we just kept the blinds closed, which was fine). This room was much better, the bathroom had been fully renovated (with heated floors, bonus!)( and the room was very nice, clean and comfortable - this is what we were expecting! The hotel offers a pillow menu, which I was very happy to see they had an allergy friendly pillow (we all know how bad hotel pillows can be, but this one was almost as good as mine at home!) The bed was comfortable, but we noticed a lot of hair (not ours, as we had just arrived) on the duvet, which accounts for the loss of one star rating from me - I think the duvet's should be cleaned after every time someone checks out of a room, which it was evident this hadn't been, so we just slept with the sheet! The walls to the rooms were also very thin, as we could hear everything that was being said in the hallway from our room, and when we were in the hallway, we could hear everything being said within other guest rooms - perhaps management could look at ways to better insulate the rooms from noise? We had dinner in our room the second night we were there. I ordered the salmon and risotto, which was tasty, but very rich and quite sickening, but fairly priced and fast service. There is also a guest laundry available free of charge, which was very appreciated as we were on our last couple of days of our holiday and a washing machine is just what we needed! Free and easy parking, fast and friendly check in, great service and very friendly staff all made for an enjoyable stay. We would especially like to thank Heather for making our stay pleasant - nothing was ever too much of a hassle for the staff. Thank you!

Room Tip: Don't get a room that faces the road - very noisy! Make sure you get a room with the bathroom re...

Thank you for taking the time to place feedback on your recent stay with us. Our staff are recognised for their friendliness and helpfulness and was wonderful to read you experienced this. We are in the process of upgrading our classic suite bathrooms. We have reflected this in our room rate and advise this on our website and generally at the time of booking, however on this occasion this didn't happen. I do apologise for this. Over 3/4 of our suites have luxury bathrooms obviously at a higher rate. I will be sure to pass your comments on to the departments.

We are just home from a weekend in the Marlborough region and stayed here. The staff were great and very helpful. We dined in the restaurant and both enjoyed our meals. The seafood chowder was excellent as were the snapper and the rissotto was exceptional. We had a Grande studio and it was spacious and very clean. Had Sky TV and free wifi as well. It's also a short walk to town. Would stay there anytime and recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: We had room 14 over looking the pool and close to all the hotel facilities. It is a quiet but also h...

Stayed in a lovely one bedroom apartment, where each room was tastefully decorated and incredibly spacious. The bedroom had a walk-in dressing room, which was a pleasant surprise! A nice comfortable bed too.

The kitchen is well equipped, with a washer/dryer that proved extremely useful after a week’s travelling. Although I did not take photos I can confirm that those on the hotel’s website (March 2014) are very much a true likeness.

A special little extra was some complimentary port, which I personally didn’t try but certainly appreciated the offer.

There is a window between the bathroom and bedroom that allows for TV viewing (if so inclined) from the comfort of the double spa bath. But there is an electric blind for privacy as well. I was impressed with the large thick towels (they hadn't lost their fluffiness).

The only downside to this apartment was that it looked over the car park (I was on the ground floor). Noise was not an issue that I noted, but when the curtains were open it did mean you were on display to anyone and everyone using the car park. Something to increase the privacy, without plunging the room into darkness, is the only suggestion I would have to improve this apartment.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. After booking through the internet all email communications with the staff were so efficient and friendly. They booked some activities for us prior to our arrival and were able to suggest other activities for us to do. The breakfast offered in the restaurant was very tasty. The rooms are beautifully decorated and spacious. The bed was huge and so comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

We had trouble finding someplace appealing and not outrageously expensive in Blenheim. We were pleased with our stay but there was nothing to really elevate it. We were two couples traveling together; at check-in, we were told that one couple had been upgraded (we did book separately, but at the same time and from the same city, and did make a note at booking that we were traveling together...so not sure why they acted so surprised). The suite to which they were upgraded was VERY nice. The woman at check-in acted chagrined that they were only upgrading one of the couples, but didn't take any action to address the weirdness that of course that caused. I'm not bothered that we weren't upgraded, but I do think they could have approached it differently (a free drink at the bar? laughing about it, even, instead of just acting like we had somehow put her on the spot?).

Our room was fine. It was ground level with a view of the pool, which was fortunately quiet at the time we were there. The room was comfortably outfitted, though cramped, and had a cleverly arranged kitchenette as a semi-separate room. There was a great deal of hall noise during the day but it was not bad at night. It was clean though not sparkling. This was the only place I stayed over 3 weeks in NZ that had any mosquitoes/moths in the room; probably because the pool was right outside our window with lots of greenery. Pretty, but a screen would have helped!

We were glad to have easy parking and a central location--it was easy to walk to dinner--though I think in the future we would just try harder to find accommodation at a nearby vineyard or farmstay.

Room Tip: Get a suite! A big step up in visual appeal and space from the standard rooms.

Thank you for your feedback. I was sorry to read your comments and your disappointment on the upgrade given to the couple you travelled with and not yourselves also. If the rooms weren't booked together it is difficult for us to know that this is the case. We on occasion offer our guests complimentary upgrades if we had known that you were together then we certainly would of offered this to you. Once we are fully booked and guests have checked in it can be impossible to do. I have spoken to the team member that checked you in and this was the case. She felt that she had explained the situation to you . I apologise for this , as I have said in other feedback I wish I had been given the opportunity to rectify this for you whilst you were here. Thank you again .
