“Not up to par with the hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

Good menu, but surprisingly mediocre execution, at both breakfast and dinner. We ordered the filet, medium rare, and it came out a solid medium although still tasty. But the mashed potato side was lumpy and lukewarm, and the green salad was literally about 3 lettuce leaves with onion, pepper slices and sprouts (which they put on top of everything, including the poached eggs at breakfast.). At breakfast, my eggs and toast came with just that - I had to ask for butter, as there was very little on the toast, and no jam was offered. My husband's omelette looked almost deep-fried, and he said it was good but had a scent and taste of fish, as if the pan had been used to cook fish previously and not thoroughly cleaned.

“Marlboroughs best kept secret!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014 via mobile

Three of us dined in Chateau's restaurant, we had heard about the new menu and thought to give it a go. FINALLY a menu with something to please everyone... And everyone's pockets! The atmosphere was great and wait staff attentive and friendly. The awesome wine list just topped it off. We all had steak... And it was very yummy!! Priced well, and came out timely. I cannot pick any faults with this restaurant. We are certainly going back, and telling all our friends! Thank you guys for a relaxing evening out!!

“Tired Workers Go For A Treat - TGF”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

This was the first time we have visited here and were looking forward to trying the new menu advertised on the local radio. We were greeted with very friendly and warm welcomes from the waitresses. There was a peaceful atmosphere which suited the occasion. Lovely surroundings and fairly priced mains. Good selection of wines too. We enjoyed our very nice filet mignon and rib eye steak meals, one with salad and other with seasonal vegies. Finished off our dinner with sumptuous desserts, and I especially enjoyed the caramel, old fashioned ice-cream sundae in it's nifty wafer-shaped glass. Table service was friendly and prompt. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a discount on the bill because we lived locally. We will be back.

“Go for the seafood chowder, but not the fish”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

The chowder was great - creamy, full of chunky seafood and leeks, and accompanied by a nice toast. Very disappointed in the fish. I like a dish where the chef has chosen all the accompaniments to go with each dish, not "choose salad or veges" with all mains on the menu - only to find the opposite is served. The fish was dry to the point crispy, really disappointing in summer so close to the sea.

“Our experience with breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

We visited the restaurant for breakfast when we stayed at the hotel. There were a number of meals to select from the menu. There were three of us dining and each chose a different breakfast. None of us particularly enjoyed our breakfast. We felt that the menu selections were overcomplicated rather than sticking to the basics and doing them well. We had dined there in the past when we stayed at the hotel a few years ago and didn't have this issue. We didn't return for breakfast the next day which was a shame as the restaurant atmosphere is very nice.
