“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

This is an amazing property. We were greeted by name and given a tour of the lodge and shown our rooms, then brought a coffee to enjoy. The meal was the best I have had in my life, a culinary delight summed up in one word - delicious - expertly matched with local wines. The room was peaceful and serene with the highest quality fittings. And leave time to walk about the 25 acres of gardens, they are wonderful and will be a real inspiration to you. I highly recommend Timara Lodge to anyone who enjoys a luxury stay.

Great food. Could not have been more attentive or helpful. Of Relais standards and surprised not one.

“The lodge is just marvellous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2011 via mobile

Its a very special place and it would be hard to find a comparible one at any place in the world. The botanic garden with the lake is outstanding. The lodge has a special character and the suites are super-cosy. The staff makes the picture perfect. It is my preffered place to stay in NZ and I will definitely come back.

“Nice but not that nice.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2011

New Zealand lodges are famous for luxury, fine dinning and stunning locations. The cost for two was $1500 US per night, including dinner and breakfast. It was nice, but not that nice. The food was good, but not that good. In the final result I found it lacking. The staff was a bit abrupt and not the usual warm Kiwi hospitality you come to expect. Next time I will save some money, and try a different lodge.

“Gracious old world charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2010

My husband and I have just returned from a beautiful stay at Timara Lodge. After driving through the stunning gardens we arrived at the beautiful old historic building, which is Timara Lodge. We were greeted warmly by Debra and Louis, the managers. Debra showed us around the Lodge, very welcoming by the lit fires. The room was beautiful with great views of the parklike garden and the large lake beyond. The little details like welcome cards and fruit platters in the room were very much appreciated. But the best was yet to come. Louis cooked some of the most amazing food we had ever tried anywhere for us. It was fresh local produce and all the dishes felt modern and light with immense flavour. We started with tasty little morsels in front of the fire in the cosy lounge room. The rest of the menu just went from one highlight to the next. Especially a carrot gel was quite extraordinary. Even the home made bread was outstanding. At night the bed was turned down and some gorgeous chocolates and fresh water awaited us. We woke to a frosty morning and gorgeous birdsong and after a delicious breakfast strolled through the garden. Even under a blanket of frost it looked beautiful. The gardener was also very helpful with hints and tips for our own garden.
