“What a Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2010

We arrived in Blenheim not knowing where we were going to stay - a quick visit to the tourist office where we picked up the leaflet for Villa Rose - what a find - I rang to ask the price and thought that the price was per person not a room for two people - more dollars available for the excellent restaurants within walking distance!
We were warmly welcomed by Gina who made us feel at home immediately; Richard then appeared and again was more than happy to relax and chat.
The home is obviously well loved and exremely well cared for although this did not make us feel inhibited in any way - we were completely at home as soon as we stepped inside. Good luck for the future - we are sure that your venture will go from strength to strength.

The stay at Villa Rose ranks way up high in the list of my 5 weeks in New Zealand. Right from the moment I stepped into the Villa Rose, I felt a kind of comfort seldomly experienced by a traveler on a moderate budget. The house is a gem with the beautiful decor and landscaping all around. I just loved all the little details that showed Gina's passionate dedication to what she had just started. The pool and the cozy terrace for those warm summer evenings are so great for relaxing after a rough day of travel or at the vineyards. Gina and Richard have extensive experience from their travels and know to help their guests with everything they need. I am sure they will make the Villa Rose one of the region's finest homestays, indeed.

I honestly could not rate this place anything less than 100%. Having travelled NZ for weeks I stayed in so many hostels/hotels and this was by far the most chilled and friendly of the lot! The staff were amazing, these guys go out of their way to make sure you get the most out of your stay. I didn't know much about Blenheim but this really was a hidden Gem! A beautiful home, friendly atmosphere, a swimming pool (the only one i found on my travels!), a day trip to the vine yards, and a very nice thai restaurant nearby. the perfect place to relax and experience the NZ life.
