The White House restaurant ain't cheap but it's extremely good and highly recommended for a special occasion. The wine list is big enough to be interesting but not so big as to be daunting. Front of house, Pete Watson, knows the food and wine inside out and his choice of a side to match my duck and Anna's fish was perfect (Pear, young rocket, roasted hazelnuts and parmesan tossed with aged balsamic and hazelnut oil). Both my cured duck breast, confit of duck leg, orange kumara puree, braised cabbage with ginger, hoisin sauce and mandarin paste and Anna's pan roasted market fish, crown pumpkin risotto, almond cream, Marcona almonds and ink were delightful. The cauliflower soup amuse bouche and bread with home-made butter wiere great added touches. Faultless service and food, and the harbour view is wonderful too. The website has both the menu and winelist online too, which is a nice touch: www.whr.co.nz
