“A haven in a storm!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

My two companions and I were in Wellington on the foulest night imaginable, and really hungry when we found the Old Bailey by chance. Instantly warm and welcoming, we enjoyed fabulous meals and were attended to by very friendly and helpful staff. I had bangers and mash, and the others had Haloumi salad. We loved it all and still talk about the atmosphere and the meal. Will definitely return.

“Good Food, Good Service, Good Atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

WE ate at the Old Bailey twice while on a recent stay in Wellington and enjoyed out meal on both occasions.
Menu was interesting and varied and food well cooked and presented. Service was friendly and efficient.
Wine list was small but suitable and a good range of Monteith’s beer on tap
Atmosphere was good with back ground music and a good crowed.
This is standard pub food dome well. If you are in Wellington and looking for a good well priced meal, you will get one at the Old Bailey

“Good food & good booze”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

We've been here a couple of times on our trips to Wellington and will keep coming back.

There is an excellent selection of alcohol to choose from, beer/wine/spirits/cocktails, and the food is even better. They'll even serve you a coffee any time of the day.

If you like garlic, get the garlic loaf and also get the chips! The burger is good as well. There's TV screens that show different channels and the staff are friendly. The only thing to note is that because it's at the parliament end of town, atmosphere can be lacking on the weekends and on some nights but that won't bother everyone.

“Good quality pub fare, relaxed atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

Getting a table at Occidental at lunchtime during the week is always a bit of a challenge as its always a popular Wellington venue, but we managed to get a table or four without reservation and settled in with a different glass of Monteiths each. I guess it's the only thing I dislike about brewery pubs. The craft beers on tap that now make up much of the Wellington scene are missing at this pub and I wonder how long it will be before the big breweries realise that they are really missing out. Still Monteiths isn't a bad drop as we studied the menu. Good cross section of Kai but with the fish being terakihi it was a no brainer and we settled in for fish and chips each. They arrived quickly, two large battered fillets each with a plethora of shoestring chips and a salad. Good sized portions in the chips and fish department but the salad was disappointingly tiny.
Not a bad meal for the price but needed more greenery and I guess if they'd had craft beer on tap we would probably still be there, and had a dessert.
