“Great selection. Ask about specials”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Fun place for a few afternoon beers. Even if you aren't interested in spending $30+ on a bottle from the giant menu, you can sip a great beverage from the tap at a reasonable price. I recommend the Tuatara APA. YUM>

“A must for a Beer Lover”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

This is a little bar with the longest beer menu you will see. They have many tap beers, but a big selection of international bottled beers.

“Liquid lunch at all times - No stopping at other times”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

There is little food here that is of interest. This is not a place to eat. Nay. It is a place to drink.

In a world of sell-out bars festooned with ridiculous marketing dross the Malthouse is the grandfather of the boutique brew bar in Wellington.

Of course it is not in the same location as the original Malthouse with it's sweeping staircase and balconies. So it gets four stars. Not five.

It is definitely a sausage fest ladies, but don't let that put you off.

“Beer Nerd Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

As a self confessed beer nerd, anywhere with 18+ microbrewery beers on tap and 80+ in bottles has got to be good - particularly as they will give you a taste if you are not sure and they know a lot about what they are doing. Two cautions: some of the beer is bloody strong (10%) so ask and then exercise some caution and restraint in consumption; and it is expensive - but is still reasonable value if you are interested in what you are drinking as it's mostly small volume, very interesting stuff.
