As I'm not big on seafood, the oyster was a bit hard to keep down, but the duck was amazing and the strawberry-gingery-goats cheese goodness that was my dessert was pretty bloody outstanding, Yum. View's lovely, especially on a still night. Service impeccable, Toilets a bit manky. All in all an above average dining experience, with a well above average prize tag. Yikes.

Great night to go, the harbour lay as flat as a satin sheet, the sun set casting peach and amber shards across the steel grey sky, and we ate at restaurant of the year! I had roasted groper with a cauliflower sauce, which was very very good, but not really $47 great. Lisa had the duck which was gorgeous, leaving me thinking that while i like fish, fish is always fish. perhaps I should've tried Martin's interpretation of lamb, or that duck. Dessert was scrumptious, again Lisa beat my little meringues and toffee popcorn with her Sablee of Sweet Goats Cheese, Peppered Strawberries, Strawberry-Ginger Coulis
which was devine (i got the last of it).

The yacht club though, no matter how wonderful the view, has never been fitted out as a specialist restaurant. The toilets are vulgur and the entrance is a little 1992. this let me down. In a total comparison package I have been more impressed by Logan Brown or Peppers Martinborough, which deliverd me tastier food, better wines, and more bang for the buck in classier environments.

“Easily Wellington's, if...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2008

Easily Wellington's, if not NZ's best seafood and best location, right down among the boats. Pick a sunny day, start lunch late, take the afternoon off, have the 6 course degustation and wine matches, try your partner's food/wine as most courses will differ from yours, walk along Oriental Parade afterwards, don't eat dinner! Go home and straight to bed, do not pass go, do not collect $200. Mind you it would help as the only place in town that is more expensive is Citron.
