“Good spot for a drink”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

I have never eaten at Hummingbird so can't comment on the food. We were very keen for a glass of bubbles but weren't thrilled with the 'by the glass' selection and ending up settling for one we didn't really enjoy. Love the lighting and atmosphere in here though - a cool place with a huge mix of people. Downside? Jeez though barstools are high!!

“Under rated on this site!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

We passed by this place and thought it looked nice! Checked out the rating here before going in and nearly had second thoughts, but went with our gut and weren't disappointed! Delicious fish tacos, lamb for 2 to die for and excellently attentive and friendly service. Not cheap but a great quality meal. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

“Chocolate Divinity”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

Great atmosphere, cocktails, entrees and then the chocolate dessert....truly a heavenly moment! The unexpected surprise of the soft centre spilling out of the crust and the captivating taste. The benchmark for all desserts to follow.

What an outstanding experience - the staff, ambience, food and drinks - all brilliant. The highlight of my weekend in Wellington.

“Shades Of The Past”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

We met at "The Bird" - back a few years ago ,
Then "the Bird" was "the place" I Wgtn, NZ:........

It is in the centre of Courtenay Place, Wgtn, NZ - it was THE place you couldn't get into.......it was sooooo THE place

The food was fantastic, the chef world class, and the Maître 'd - the Italian bloke - utterly give him a tip, world class, brilliant.

Even the bar head - bright yellow and green hair - Eddie - what a star for the patrons - where is that wonder now....

I'd heard the Bird had changed in recent years.

Well, a couple of recent visits......

Don't bloody bother.......

NEVER have I seen a rapid 'fall from grace" in such a short time for such an incredible place.. And how to turn a place into an "ooops" - if a consultant was involved - don't pay them.

The walls are stripped to the brick - nice - but the atmosphere is zilch.....

Can't speak for the food - but the previously "mates: bar service is utterly sterile now.

The place is weird in interior surroundings.....and - what no brain moron puts tea cups and china stuff etc up in the main view where your main sale are is . - where the grog you want to sell should be - ......woooo hoooo - planet normal calling.......!!!

It's the centre of town - was the biggest thin in NZ........!!! Tea Cups at eye level........ nuts - imagine what Gordon Ramsey would say....... "f me"

And, why is the menu(ish) up on the wall on the back of the bar where you just can't see it?

The price of wine - they have top end wine - and a great selection by any standards.
But - not good - basic wine - WAY overpriced.

Don't get me started on the madness of, after all these years, still having Ponderosa Saloon doors for the men's bogs..........Yo, Hoss, .........

Being away overseas - It's clear as hell to see the potential of how to rejuvenate this place - - but it clearly means dumping some idiot staff, and just be what it used be..... NZ's top place.......

Seriously - this was the best - it still could resurrect, but, utterly sadly, not at the mo the way it is......
