“Great business base”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Have stayed here many times on business. Excellent location, especially if you're meeting at Parliament. Professional check-in and out services. Pleasant rooms - with basic kitchenette facilities. Room service, pretty good. Good lobby for coffee meetings. AC unit in the rooms can be a bit temperamental.

Room Tip: Some rooms have balconies - beware the hotel is surrounding by office buildings. You might want to...

Welcome back, and thanks for taking the time to share your experience with TripAdvisor! Great to hear that all aspects of your stay with us are to a high standard. Be sure to let the team at reception know that you have had a temperamental AC unit in the past, so we can add it to your profile notes to check the unit before you check in! Looking forward to welcoming you back soon.

We stayed here for three nights. The huge king size bed was one of the most comfortable I've experienced. The rooms are a generous size. Although you want to ask when you book to have a room with the view of the harbour. The staff were excellent and rooms kept to a high standard. My only complaint is the cost of parking at the hotel. However parking on the street is expensive also.

Room Tip: As for a room facing the harbour

Hi there, the beds are so comfortable aren’t they! We have many comments about the comfort of our guest’s sleeps here. The cost of our valet parking service is competitive across our competitors in Wellington, offering you a 24 hour valet service. Come back soon, and sleep on our amazing beds!

When we arrived in Wellington we decided to drop off our hire car at the ferry terminal rather than park it up for two days. We were able to park immediately outside the hotel while we checked in and left our luggage, then drove the short distance to the drop off. By the time we had walked back, our bags were in our room.
The room was nicely furnished with a small kitchen area and a view over the streets. It was only a short walk to the harbour and cable car and not too far to the city centre.
The staff were always friendly and helpful - a very pleasant stay.

This hotel is another one of the many I stay at for business. The hotel is very close to downtown businesses and cafe's. Easy walk to most places. The staff are very pleasant and the rooms are comfortable. The southern end, corner rooms are great as they give a great view. The menus are great and the food is superb. Higher end price wise. The wine list has some great wines and is reasonably priced though.

Room Tip: End corner rooms

Thanks for the great review of your stay with us, we are well regarded as a business hotel with a fantastic location. Agree with your room recommendation, and they are a little bigger than the average room! Our restaurant, Portlander really has steaked its claim on Wellington with local wines to match. Can’t wait to have you back!

The Rydges Wellington is within a short walk of Parliament House and the harbour area.

The rooms were fine but the air conditioner required someone to visit the room before it worked. I was interested that someone else was complaining at the same time as myself and another person mentioned it. So this would suggest a systemic problem that the management might like to address.

The shower layout was fine but the hot water - or at least the volume of it - was not always there so an early shower is a must.

The room in question had a micro wave and fridge as well as hot plate but no cooking devices. I could have asked from them but didn't need it.

The hotel did provide 20 minutes of free internet access per day but charged a lot if you wanted more. it might be wiser to visit Dick Smith down the road and purchase a prepaid internet device for $35.00 if you are staying longer. Otherwise there is a McDonalds with free wifi nearby just across from the train station.

We stayed her for one night prior to taking the Picton Ferry for a trip to the South Island and it was so good we decided to stay here on the way back. Lovely rooms well appointed and the perfect place to explore the harbour area and the city.

The restaurant was superb, great steaks and sea food! Would highly recommend. The breakfast buffet was extremely good!

Hi there, thanks so much for your awesome review of Rydges Wellington! Great to hear that you enjoyed your stay so much that after the South Island trip you stayed again. Our location is great, being the closest to the Ferry terminals. Thanks for the recommendation of Portlander, I hope that the rest of your trip around our beautiful country was as good as your stay with us.

Great hotel in downtown Wellington. Right in downtown. Easy walk to cable car, parliament, ferries, restaurants and shopping. Also it's an easy walk to Te Papa museum which is outstanding. The room was large, clean and quiet. Great place.
