Those are Jane's words to describe her B&B. Jane really made us feel like guests, not customers. There are so many little touches like full cookie jars, beer, wine and milk available in the upstairs hall, tons of books available and great conversation and recommendations. We had a cosy room lacking nothing for a comfortable night. The location is really convenient for walking all over town or for walking off some calories! The breakfast table discussions were really fun.

Room Tip: A room in the back of the house would be a little quieter.

We spent 3 nights in Wellington during our one month NZ tour. We had a comfortable room at the back of the house with an ensuite. The bed was very comfortable with good lights for reading and many books available if you needed a new one to read! Jane was always available to give recommendations for dinner and things to do. Breakfast was delicious and it's always fun to sit around the table chatting with the other guests. It's very easy to walk almost anywhere (although I confess the hill after dinner can be a challenge)! If you have a car, the parking can be a challenge depending on time of day, but we always managed to find a spot. The wine and beer, and of course the cookies, were a welcome addition. Booklovers is a great base for visiting the Wellington area.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are quieter.

We (family of five, kids aged 4, 8 & 11) had a wonderful couple of nights at Jane's. The lovely breakfast at the round kitchen table sharing stories with other travelers and Jane and her staff was wonderful, as were chats with Jane about her writing and literature in general. Jane guided us to restaurants and walks in the nearby park, booked taxis, and helped us with laundry. Rooms were romantic and clean, and beds were comfortable. Altogether a lovely experience that we're happy to recommend to others!

Located up the hill a bit from the downtown area, but well within walking distance, Booklovers provided a roomy bedroom with one of those old-fashioned claw foot bathtubs, this one with a very good shower in the bathroom. Jane, award-winning author of five books, was friendly and helpful in advising of places to see and eat. Good wi-fi service is included, as well as cooked to order breakfast. There were plenty of DVD's available if you had time to use the DVD player and television that came with the room; of particular interest were movies on the Maori history and culture. Bookshelves lined with books, some of which are yours for the taking.

We visited the 6-story national museum while here for two nights, and found the botanic gardens very much worth a visit. If you take the "cable car" up the hillside to the gardens, we recommend you purchase a one-way ticket only, since the walk through all the gardens will bring you gradually back to a point not far from the base of the cable car. The parliament building and beehive building are worth an hour or so of your time, as well.

Jane is a very hospitable and interesting host. Her homemade granola and rhubarb compote is part of a filling and delicious breakfast. Te Papa Museum and many good restaurants are within ten minutes walking distance. She also stocks a small fridge with complimentary beer, wine, etc. which is very nice at the end of a long day of sightseeing.

Got this recommendation from a German family we met in Tairua and corresponded directly with Jane. A large house in a quiet part of the city but close enough to walk downtown. Made really welcome from the minute we arrived. A large comfortable room with loads of character. A relaxing feel about the house and if you can engage Jane with her interest in writing about the 1st WW you will have a great time.
For one day at least we left the car on the drive, walked up Mt Victoria and around the city. A couple of good restaurants nearby so we didn't worry about drink and driving. Also walked to the Embassy to watch the Hobbit - where else than Wellington.
I really enjoyed this stay but then the weather was good.

This was a lovely B & B in a quiet location in Wellington. The welcoming we received from Jane was very warm. She gave us a really good tip for food and drink that night and made us feel very much at home.
She is a really interesting person and the themes in the Booklovers are really interesting. The room was really lovely and had some pleasant views over Welly. The bed was really comfortable and set us up for the next day's crossing to Picton. Would love to have stayed longer.
