“Great Fish And Chips Shop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

After the walk at Redrock we stopped at Lyall Bay for a bite. No wind at all and just perfect. The views of the bays on either side looks just so spectacular and the airport with planes departing and landing makes it just so wonderful in the late evening with the arrays of coloured lights all around. Surfers still trying to catch a wave and joggers and walkers enjoying the evening

We were hungry by then so the Seaview Takeaway fish and chips shop across the road was a welcome sight after the long walk. The service was excellent and fast as we were hungry. And boy do they make great fish and chips. The fish were huge and chips just so plentiful almost like a serving for four people.Wow I wish they would do the same in Australia.

Anyway we went and sat on the waterfront and enjoyed the very nice fish and chips and the wonderful sights all around. Quite enjoyable.

“This can be a wild walk!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

Lyall Bay can be just beautiful on a calm, sunny day but it is also wonderful when the wind blows and the sea is wild. Just a bus ride away for tourists with out a car. It is worth a visit!

“A nice beach with the wind from the right direction”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Lyall bay had a couple of dozen of surfers there when we visited, so is obviously reasonable for that. There is a play area for the kids which is nice. The beach also has a surf club which is good for those wanting that extra level of safety. But be very careful where the wind is coming from when you visit. We went when there was a northerly and it was fine, however in a southerly it would be blowing sand straight into your face. The fish and chip store across from the surf club also provided good food.

“Best dog beach in Wellington”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

The eastern part of Lyall Bay is THE place for dogs to meet, chase sticks and balls, and entice their humans to chat about their foibles. Fantastic socialising for all. People surf, kite surf and just hang out. Further west is the Maranui Surf Club cafe. Rarely warm enough just to sit down or sunbathe. Bring layers of merino. And poo bags. A short walk from the airport. Look out for surf-blasted glass fragments and bricks.
