“Rugged”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

Good place to take the kids for a brisk walk. If you walk abit further go to Lyall Bay and have a burger at Ekams best in the world. Great place to go winter and summer and just go for a walk

“Best suburb in Wellington”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

Cute little village, 10 mins drive from Wellington City, originally settled by Italian fishing families, beach still host to fishing boats (Italian and others), beautiful rugged southern coastline with views across Cook Strait to the South Island. Walk around to Owhiro Bay and keep going - you will end up at the entrance to Red Rocks. Sundays the gate is locked so accessible to walkers and bikes only - otherwise also 4WD traffic. Couple of hours walk around the coast you will find a seal colony. Island Bay village also hosts the best Thai restaurant in Wellington, cafes, shops, etc plus cute boutique cinema with sofa style seating.
