“Excellent value, friendly staff, perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2010

I stayed in this property with my 4 year old son for 1 night. We received an excellent rate of $85 p/n and parking which was $15. To experience quality accommodation with parking in the centre of Wellington for $100, is practically unheard of! We received a warm, friendly and genuine welcome from Faiz the hotel and reservations manager and was no problem that we were checking in 2 hours earlier than the hotels standard 2pm check in. I must admit the room that we were allocated (queen) was on the small side, but really, you are only there to lay your head for the night. We were on the 4th floor, facing out to Dixon Street, opposite the lovely church A very quiet sleep, with comfortable bedding and nice furnishings. The only downside that I can think of was a cleaning issue - attention to detail goes a long way in a hotel bathroom, several scuff marks on the pale walls from previous patrons suitcases etc and perhaps checking under the bed at each departure - i found 3 unopened cans of burbon under the bed!!! So cleaning wise, if you scratch the surface, perhaps a little rough around the edges, but excellent value for money. I will definately be back. FYI the photos via the website of accommodation rooms are accurate - you won't be dissapointed in this regard.

I booked, via the internet, a King Premium room for 4 nights to enable my wife and I to have easy access to events in the International Arts Festival. As far as the location was concerned, it was ideal. Nothing we went to was more than 10 minutes walk away. Unfortunately, other aspects were not up to scratch. Other reviews mention the lift - that hasn't changed. It reminded me of the cash register in the TV sitcom "Open All Hours". It had - when it was operating - the fiercest door mechanism I've ever seen. One guest had been "grabbed" just before we arrived, and was far from happy with her experience.

The room was clean, but rather small for the price - compact would be a fair description. Average standard of fittings. It would have been OK except for one thing. I had requested a quiet location, but while we had been allocated a room on the top (6th) floor, quiet it was not. The windows were above a side street which turned out to be a major access route for students from Victoria University. Even though a by-law banning liquor in the streets is in force, drunken students and other young people partied in the streets until 4 or 5 in the morning. The noise on two of the three nights we stayed was awful.

While we can't blame the hotel for the noise, double-glazed windows and other sound insulation measures would mitigate the problem - which staff admitted was causing them continuous difficulties and complaints.

The breakfast options provided were very average, and served in the bar - not the restaurant which seemed odd and not appropriate. The staff were polite and helpful.

Would we stay there again? No way! (We checked-out after 3 nights - the earliest we were able to find alternative accomodation).

Three of us stayed here for one night in a triple room. The hotel is in a good location making it easy for us to walk to everywhere we wanted to go in the City. The room was quite compact but fine for just one night and had all the facilities we needed. There was a dodgy socket in the bathroom (casing no longer attached to the wall and wires exposed) and paint peeling off the ceiling above the shower, but other than that it was ok.
The lift in the hotel is very dodgy and aggressive and gives you hardly any time to get in and out. Each trip in the lift felt like a bit of a risk so we were glad to only have to put up with it for one night!
Breakfast was included in our package (continental) but wish we hadn't bothered. There were flies hovering around the table, the cornflakes were stale and looked like they were the left overs from the bottom of several packets so toast and fruit was the only option really.

I have nothing bad to say about this hotel, it was clean, modern and best of all very cheap! We had a lovely room for $109, we only stayed one night but it would have been comfortable and suitable for a long stay. Room and bathroom were both a good size and had all the mod cons. The location is very central so no great views but I am willing to give that up as Wellington often experiences bad weather! I would 100% recommend this hotel to someone! One thing I would say though is don't purchase the wireless internet service as it was SO slow, a complete was of money!

We spent 2 nights at Trinity. The reception greetings and bar staff were friendly, helpful and down to earth, very urban Kiwi. The rooms were not large but they are modern clean and chic, no 70's or 80's shabby in our rooms. Besides which, we spend a lot of time exploring the beatiful city, Wellington has so much to offer. Yes the streets down below were noisey and busy, one has to expect that, for goodness, its a CITY. We loved it's clingy clangy noises during the night, its a happening place thats why we stayed there. Breakfast was goodvalue and we had great meals in Cuba Mall which was a stones throw away. The security of our motorbikes being locked away in the carpark when not in use made it more attractive for us. Though it did get a bit exciting manouvoering between pedestrians and fast moving traffic getting the bikes in and out. Hey, thats Wellington, hills are everywhere. Oh also, we had an amazing view of a very stately church in all its oldworld charm, directly out of our window. That was a gem.

We stayed over a public holiday weekend. We had only one full day in Wellington to see the sights, as I had met a friend there at the airport after seeing some family. So the location was perfect; everything in walking distance etc.
We got a very good rate and at first I was happy. But the sheer lack of staff made any kind of service impossible. We had to ask 4 times for our complimentary wine to be delivered and in the end the receptionist told me she was 'a bit worse for wear' after last night so wasn't working too well. Um... too much information? We finally gave up and went out, the next day I discovered the bathroom doorhandle was broken and I was locked in for a short time. The TV has no Sky despite saying they did. We got a room with 2 singles which we didn't want, but because housekeeping were 'finished' all the other rooms were not made up! (yuk). The restaurant was closed for renovations which was fine, but breakfast happened in the dark because there was no lighting. The second day we arrived home exhausted after a long day only to find the room had not been made up. The housekeeper had left without finishing her job. The receptionist (same girl as the day before) tried to say it was unfixable as 'I don't know how to clean a room' and 'a couple of other people have the same problem'. In the end she came and made the beds (badly) herself, despite my protests to just leave the linen for me to manage.
The rooms were smart and clean, although dust was an issue in all of the corners and I do have an allergy, which is annoying. Very half hearted cleaning.
No shelf space in the bathroom.
I would shop around a bit. For one night this hotel would be absolutely fine, but for more than one it just got annoying. They had one staff member on site overnight, in an almost full hotel. It just simply wasn't good enough.

Stayed one night in Dec 2009 as a starting point to North Island driving experience. Hotel is located centrally and all the sights are within walking distance. As was mentioned in another review, noice is pretty loud from the main street if you are a light sleeper. Parking costs 15 NZD in hotel's garage, you can save few bucks by parking at the hall opposite side of the street or at street park which is free on weekends only though. Good value average hotel, breakfast also recommended at the restaurant downstairs. Rooms are a bit small as is tv as well, but surely decent enough for short stay.
