“Fine for one night, but watch the dodgy lift and don't bother with the breakfast ...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2010

Three of us stayed here for one night in a triple room. The hotel is in a good location making it easy for us to walk to everywhere we wanted to go in the City. The room was quite compact but fine for just one night and had all the facilities we needed. There was a dodgy socket in the bathroom (casing no longer attached to the wall and wires exposed) and paint peeling off the ceiling above the shower, but other than that it was ok.
The lift in the hotel is very dodgy and aggressive and gives you hardly any time to get in and out. Each trip in the lift felt like a bit of a risk so we were glad to only have to put up with it for one night!
Breakfast was included in our package (continental) but wish we hadn't bothered. There were flies hovering around the table, the cornflakes were stale and looked like they were the left overs from the bottom of several packets so toast and fruit was the only option really.

I have nothing bad to say about this hotel, it was clean, modern and best of all very cheap! We had a lovely room for $109, we only stayed one night but it would have been comfortable and suitable for a long stay. Room and bathroom were both a good size and had all the mod cons. The location is very central so no great views but I am willing to give that up as Wellington often experiences bad weather! I would 100% recommend this hotel to someone! One thing I would say though is don't purchase the wireless internet service as it was SO slow, a complete was of money!

We spent 2 nights at Trinity. The reception greetings and bar staff were friendly, helpful and down to earth, very urban Kiwi. The rooms were not large but they are modern clean and chic, no 70's or 80's shabby in our rooms. Besides which, we spend a lot of time exploring the beatiful city, Wellington has so much to offer. Yes the streets down below were noisey and busy, one has to expect that, for goodness, its a CITY. We loved it's clingy clangy noises during the night, its a happening place thats why we stayed there. Breakfast was goodvalue and we had great meals in Cuba Mall which was a stones throw away. The security of our motorbikes being locked away in the carpark when not in use made it more attractive for us. Though it did get a bit exciting manouvoering between pedestrians and fast moving traffic getting the bikes in and out. Hey, thats Wellington, hills are everywhere. Oh also, we had an amazing view of a very stately church in all its oldworld charm, directly out of our window. That was a gem.

We stayed over a public holiday weekend. We had only one full day in Wellington to see the sights, as I had met a friend there at the airport after seeing some family. So the location was perfect; everything in walking distance etc.
We got a very good rate and at first I was happy. But the sheer lack of staff made any kind of service impossible. We had to ask 4 times for our complimentary wine to be delivered and in the end the receptionist told me she was 'a bit worse for wear' after last night so wasn't working too well. Um... too much information? We finally gave up and went out, the next day I discovered the bathroom doorhandle was broken and I was locked in for a short time. The TV has no Sky despite saying they did. We got a room with 2 singles which we didn't want, but because housekeeping were 'finished' all the other rooms were not made up! (yuk). The restaurant was closed for renovations which was fine, but breakfast happened in the dark because there was no lighting. The second day we arrived home exhausted after a long day only to find the room had not been made up. The housekeeper had left without finishing her job. The receptionist (same girl as the day before) tried to say it was unfixable as 'I don't know how to clean a room' and 'a couple of other people have the same problem'. In the end she came and made the beds (badly) herself, despite my protests to just leave the linen for me to manage.
The rooms were smart and clean, although dust was an issue in all of the corners and I do have an allergy, which is annoying. Very half hearted cleaning.
No shelf space in the bathroom.
I would shop around a bit. For one night this hotel would be absolutely fine, but for more than one it just got annoying. They had one staff member on site overnight, in an almost full hotel. It just simply wasn't good enough.

Stayed one night in Dec 2009 as a starting point to North Island driving experience. Hotel is located centrally and all the sights are within walking distance. As was mentioned in another review, noice is pretty loud from the main street if you are a light sleeper. Parking costs 15 NZD in hotel's garage, you can save few bucks by parking at the hall opposite side of the street or at street park which is free on weekends only though. Good value average hotel, breakfast also recommended at the restaurant downstairs. Rooms are a bit small as is tv as well, but surely decent enough for short stay.

I stayed at the trinity hotel
I had a couple of problems but found out the next day how to prevent them happening again.
I booked on need it now and got a kingsize bed which was two singles put together
and was given a room on willis street.
If I stay there i was told by the friendly staff at reception to ask for a queensize bed and a room away from willis street.

Our two night stay at the Trinity Hotel was a strange mixture of the good and the bad but was redeemed by the helpfulness of the staff.

First the good. This hotel is very well located, near the shops, Cuba St, the harbour and on the route to the ferry. It has a smart entrance and helpful reception staff. The bedroom furnishings are quite smart, as was the bathroom, which had a good shower. The queen bed was comfortable and there was no traffic noise as we faced the back. Continental breakfast was included in the rate (NZ$115) so it was quite good value for a city centre hotel. There was secure car parking on site.

Now for the bad. The hotel parking cost us $15 a day although we believe it's free on the street. The garage was small and dark and the staff tended to close the roller door too quickly ie before we had passed through. Entry to the garage was on a steep hill near a blind corner, so not good for hovering. The lift was amusing/worrying depending on your temperament, as the door closes noisily with a jerk. The carpet outside the lift on our floor (5th) needed replacing.

Our room was very small and cramped. It was dark, as the window was tall and narrow and faced a blank wall. The walls were rather thin as we heard a little bit of noise from people in the adjoining room. The room was generally clean, but the edges of the carpet were dusty and the metal window frame ledge was grimy. The towel hoop fell off the wall in the bathroom while we were there and left a hole in the floor tile where it landed. We reported this but it was not replaced in the short time we were there. There were hardly any surfaces to put things on in the bathroom. Wi-fi was expensive but we made use of a free stray signal while there, and also used Esquires too (free for an hour for the price of a cup of coffee).

The redeeming feature was that the kitchen and reception staff were very helpful and willing to deliver our continental breakfast to our room at 6.15am on our last morning (we had an early ferry) at no extra charge, despite the breakfast service not starting officially until 7am.
