Built in a relatively short nine month period in the early 1860’s Old St Paul’s stands in testament to the skill of the architect and carpenters responsible for its design and construction. Native woods are on prominent display throughout what must rank as one of the greatest timber Gothic Revivalist churches remaining in the world today. It is no wonder this building is a listed a New Zealand Category 1 Historic Place. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Wellington with a view to taking in it’s cultural and historic sites; and when you go watch one of more of the ‘Exhibition: Read This Building’ video vinaigrettes for some great background information. St. Paul’s Cathedral is a couple of streets away; but this is the one you should visit.
