“Quite comfortable backpacker”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

Stayed in Wellington for a week and found that Hotel/Backpacker. Really comfortable and strong bunks, nice reception and good location. The arrangement of the showers and toilets in the lower level (backpacker) is a bit strange but they are clean and you get used to it.
The kitchen for the backpackers is a bit old and doesn't provide of storage space but it has everything you need as a backpacker!

We stayed in the backpacker wing of this hotel and stayed in a 6 bed dorm. The decor was really nice and it did feel much more like a hotel than a hostel. It's located right in the centre of the city, close to the coast and car parking.

You had to hire your crockery and cutlery which was a bit of a pain but I can see it was their attempt to make people wash up after themselves. Saying that, it didn't really work as the kitchen was always filthy and you got the feeling that the staff felt it wasn't their job to clean it? So it was just left, dirty and horrible.

The WiFi was free but didn't work very well. The only place you could get any signal was in the reception area.

Do stay here though, it is nice and was a good price for a city centre hostel.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your review

Firstly I would like to apologise about the WIFI, we have had problems in the past with so it has been given out as long as our guests would like for free. It is working a lot better now thankfully

Second of all it is not common practice for our staff not to clean the kitchen, we are sorry you have experienced this.
We have a cleaning rota within the kitchen and our staff have to check every hour to ensure the bins are emptied, no dirty dishes, clean tea towels and so on.

This feedback has been invaluable to discuss with our staff to improve our procedures for our future guests.

We take pride in our beautiful hotel, I hope when you come back to Wellington you will have a much better experience.

Again thank you for your feedback.

All the best,
Cambridge Hotel Management Team

Quite a trek from Intercity bus stop on foot. Offers free wifi that doesn't work. Room a was standard dorm but was really quite small and was directly opposite kitchen and adjoining hotel bar. That made for loud nights with the tone quietening down around 2-4am. Kitchen was the common room area in one long room. The fridge was just a metal box complete with no shelves for food just a pile stacked on top of one another. The showers gave you 5 minutes to shower before light turns off (energy saving). We stayed for three nights and didn't get a full nights sleep for any of them. Wouldn't recommend.

Hotel is old, but room was clean and provided the usual things for the three of us (towels, soap, shampoo, fridge, coffee). If you are with a car, ask about the parking, it's a bit tricky.

Excellent location, everything within walking distance.

Free WiFi for 2 hrs, but you can ask and get additional time. Internet is slow, though.

We only used the public kitchen for the microwave, but saw others cooking full meals there.

Staff is very nice and helpful.

If you are looking for something cozy and romantic for your honeymoon trip...definitely this is not your place. The hotel is old (the lift really deserves a visit, it´s amazing how can still works) Rooms are simple but clean and quiet. Bathrooms are basic but with soap and towels. The breakfast was good and cheap. The best? the location, right in the center, close to all the attractions in Wellington. In general, the best you can have for the price you pay.

A message to the super friendly and nice receptionist who found our lost bottles of wine: You are very welcome if you stop in Norway in your trip around Europe!

Room Tip: If you have budget, try to get a triple with private bathroom.

Stayed in just the one night but it was everything I expected. Really its probably more of a backpackers, but it dosen;t claim to be any thing its not. Rooms were very clean, I had single room with shared bathroom, and the bathroom was also very clean and big showers with free soap. Its location is good right on the bus route to and from airport, easy walking distance to all major attraction and town

My 3-day stay was really horrible. Kitchen set is placed untidy, many rotten breads, full food storage and fridges. No waste mgmt. Room was less vents and moist. Water temp of shower cant be controlled. It was getting hotter and hotter.

And the most annoying was less control from this hostel mgmt. There were couple flirting and sleeping in one bunk. Disgusting and immorale!

The only (+) thing were shower/wc are enough, clean, and hygien, and also strategic location in downtown of Wellington.

Room Tip: Choose room with good vent/air circulation
