“Very tired and not so clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Last few reviews are a pretty accurate description of this accommodation. Strong cooking smell in reception then a strong bleach smell in the stairwell. Very untidy ex dining room at the entrance. All the dishes needed washing before use, floor was so dirty that you stuck to it. Cooker did not work. The (mouldy) shower vibrated the whole wall when turned slightly to far. Plus various other things that have just been overlooked
Good linens - although slightly worn they were very clean (guess that is the bleach smell)
Bed was very comfortable. The surprise was that we were on the road side of the building but the traffic did not disturb us.
Owners were nice enough but did not seem to be very helpful. Maybe just tired of the constant demands they face

Stayed here with sports team and supporters, stayed in 3bdroom unit and a number of studios. Studio units were passable the 3bdroom unit was disgustingly filthy! The lino in kitchen caked in dirt thought it was just old and marked but following a spot test found it just filthy. A carpet of dust covered items left on top of fridge (am not kidding). Oven needed 2 people to use - one to hold up door while other removed hot food. Had to call in owners to get fridge n oven to work meanwhile all our food had defrosted. Hair was found in bathroom and on linen. Discussions with ?owners to remedy issues became tense and uncomfortable. Decision was made to leave unfortunately it was pointed out contracted to stay or pay 3days accom of which we couldn't afford to walk away from. There was no offer to reduce costs consequently paid good money for very very substandard accomodation.

The Good
The three bedroomed apartment on the top floor is very spacious with a separate kitchen and a large dining lounge area. The conservatory area is a lovely suntrap and can be used for dining if required. The beds are comfortable and linen clean. The refrigerator is suitable for the size of the apartment. Hot water is endless. The oven is also a large size. Having a dishwasher (even without powder) was a nice surprise. There is more than sufficient seating. Pleasant views from all windows.

The Not so Good
The complex is older style, very tired and rundown (the landlord needs to spend some money on the joinery to stop closed doors flying open in a wind and stop the serious rattling of windows).
Unfortunately the premises are close to marginal in cleanliness. The initial superficial look seemed okay, however following an inspection of the cooking facilities it was obvious that more work was needed. There is very little supplied in the way of cleaning equipment which makes it difficult for guests to keep the unit in a suitable condition. Cooking utensils\containers were very limited. Although there is a microwave there are no dishes that are microwave proof (bowls/casserole dishes etc)
Basic maintenance is just not happening – the oven door won’t hold open, handles are not screwed into saucepans and light bulbs not replaced.
One concern was that the promised portable cot didn't have a mattress to fit making it dangerous for use by a small child and there were no cot sheets.
The reception lobby is off putting as it constantly smells strongly of food cooking . A large room opening onto the lobby is visible and looks rather like a Chinese laundry or an untidy family living room.
The place has a sort of 'defeated air' about it which is sad as it has the potential to be a great family/group accommodation option.

It was ok, nothing special, just somewhere to sleep. Our campervan only just got round the car park entrance, very tight. The whole place smelt of chinese food all the time. The mini kitchen was useful. We picked it because of its proximity to Cuba Street and the centre of the city, only a few minutes walk from the action.

First impressions - not good! Reception was untidy. What use to be a restaurant looked like a creche. Receptionist was in a hurry. Gave me the room key and then ran off ahead of me. I followed her, thinking she was showing me where my room was but alas, she dove into one of the rooms where what seemed to be a crying baby from within. I continued down the corridor and found my room. The aroma of food cooking was rather off-putting.
Once in the room, I was surprised at the state. No frills at all. I got hay-fever not long after and found that there was dust under the bed. Bathroom was dark and there was no ventilation.
I stayed for 3 nights. Overall - so, so!
Savings grace:
1) Location. Great walking distance to Cuba St - Mall.
2) Laundry facilities were cheap and fast.
I would not stay there again! For the price that you pay, it is not worth it!

Room Tip: I had a room on Victoria St side. I did not have any problems with the traffic noise.

Where to start??? Whole place is very tired and shabby looking, the rooms looked clean until you looked closer, hair not ours all over the place, towels had dirt marks all over and these were the refreshed ones, kitchen facilities needed cleaning before use as glasses were stuck to the shelf. Windows latches were very lose so you couldn't close the window so heard the all the traffic outside all night.
But the worst to come was sleeping in the beds made us itch and we seem to have a number of bites over us - hence i wish i had stayed in the car as the hire car is a lot cleaner.
Yes it is a good location and free parking, but don't get sucked in, pay the extra and stay somewhere else. Internet access is chargeable.

I use to stay here in the past 1996- 2006 and it was great, but sadly under new management the standards have dropped considerably.
1)No certficate of compliance for the lift (It has been removed),
2)Sheets not pressed,
3)No heating in room,
4)Electric blanket cord repaired with tape -dangerous.
5)Poor lighting,
6)Insufficent bathroom soap/ toitlet tissue etc. ..A great location but has deteriorated markedly.

Room Tip: Rooms on the right side are quieter
