“A great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

When I came across the Carillon when I was looking for a place to say for the 2012 Wellington sevens. The manger Philip made me feel very welcome when I arrived and told me about the history of the Carillion.I enjoyed my stay at the Carillion and best of all it is with in walking distances to all of Wellington major tourist spots such as Cuba St,Courtney place,Te Papa the cable care.I would highly recomend the Carillion to anyone when coming to Wellington for a hoilday or work.

I have travelled New zealand for 11months. I checked heaps of backpackers in which stressed "Budget" but Most of them had poor service. Even they were rude to their customer.
I checked in this hostel about a month ago(actually i wrote this recommendation in South Korea). Philip, the hostel owner, is easy going, well-organised and considerate to people.
Facilities are good as well even though there are not fitness centre and internal pool. Accesity of city central is also good. You can get to city central 10minutes on foot which are called Courtney place and Cuba street.
I never regreted i stayed there.

I've learnt pretty fast that the Loney Planet is only good to find a decent accomodation in NZ. For all other activities you really need to have the NZ FRENZY!
But, The Carillon is the spot to be when you're staying in Wellington for a night or two (as I did, after having talked to Philip for an hour as I was checking in).
You've got all you need for a very low rate: Brilliant house, full of memories and fairy tales, nice clean rooms (en suite) and a manger who loves his work. Beside, it's located in the true heart of the city, just one block away from the Wellington "Reepberbahn".
Loved it, will come back one day, have a schnaps, Philip!

This was the craziest stop on our journey through New Zealand! Like the "Lonely Planet" wrote, this location is amazing. It is a little bit difficult to find (by car), but when you are there, the surprise is perfect. The staff is especially different from all others we have met before - it was pure fun. From the motel it is 10 minutes walk to the city center and main sites. The walk offers a good cross section of Wellington.
The room was clean, spacious and well equipped and as expected without luxury. You can prepare your food in the common kitchen of the motel. Even the power blackout in the morning fitted in the picture - if we may add;-)
Great experience, thanks a lot!

This place is perfectly located, with a great shortcut to the city centre! The manager was very funny and had good knowledge of the area. I thought the room was good value for money and would recommend it!

One might not say that the Carillon is a modern motel with the latest commodities. However, it is a well located motel which offers clean and comfortable rooms and beds. The rooms are spacious with good functioning showers. The owner was very friendly and practical. A typical kiwi!! For its price, we strongly recommend this motel!
