“always a great activity..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

Up at the Botanic gardens its a great way to let off steam with the kids, especially if its a nice sunny day. Awesome kids playground with flying fox. But it is on a slope so beware little ones toppling down. Cool harbour views form the observatory. Magic rose gardens. We always take the cable car up and walk down to town, as it only takes about 15 minutes and the stariways take you right past all the lovely old wooden villas and bungalows. we just waltzed along with all the uni students down to cuba mall. Always a great visit!!

“Lady Norwood Rose Garden in Wellington Botanic Gardens...Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

I visited this exquisite and highly perfumed rose-garden in November 2013, whilst on a 12-night cruise around New Zealand on RCCL's mega-ship, "Voyager of the Seas."

A world-class garden with spectacular and densely-planted, rose gardens overflowing with some of the largest and healthiest roses I have ever seen.

This garden is an absolute vision and a dream to experience! Fragrant and beautifully organised rose-beds amongst pathways with an impressive conservatory and also a garden cafe (with very friendly staff, perfectly-suited to working in this beautiful environment).

A gift-shop too, selling tasteful and quality souvenirs of your visit, such as dainty jewellery, beautiful bookmarks, flower-seeds, gardening books etc.

(Are gardens a bit like French patisseries? You are convinced you have seen the absolute best and the most impressive in the world...until you see the next one, which seems to surpass all others you have seen/enjoyed? It's rather nice though...to fall upon even more wonderful delights for the senses! This world is full of amazing sights and opportunities! So good that we can share these with our fellow tourists here on "trip advisor" rather than keep them to ourselves.)

New Zealanders are extremely welcoming and friendly hosts!

A peaceful afternoon out at the Botanics is perfect for a sunny day in Wellington. Check out the Rose Garden and the cafė, I loved the apple pie!

“Another of Wellington's top attractions.......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2014

We were lucky with 3 days of brilliant sunnshine when we visited Wellington.
The gardens are stunning and so are the views. We took about 3 hours to stroll round and enjoyed every minute of it. The view of the cricket match below was great from the top of the gardens. The garden was so colourful and had a great variety of interesting content. Another "must see"

“Lovely way to stretch your legs in Wellington!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2014

OK so I'm a sucker for Botanical gardens. This one is a bit interesting to get to since you can ride the Wellington Cable Car - a cheap and fun ride. At the top is the Cable Car Museum and right next to it is the entrance to the Gardens. There's many fantastic plants here, a nice native exhibit, some great walks, and a chance to see and learn about the New Zealand tree ferns. You mustn't leave NZ without seeing the silver tree fern - it is the logo for the All Blacks rugby team and easily recognized since it is green on top and silver on bottom. The vistas here are worth the walk and you can enjoy a beverage at the outside cafe or soup and a sandwich.
