“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

We walked down the gardens from the cable car journey to the top. The paths are very steep but well worth the walk to see the amazing gardens. We took the long path and it took hours to get to the bottom, stopping to look at buildings on the way down, then the wonderful rose gardens and Begonia house. You walk through a couple of cemeteries with graves over 150 years old, then exit down by the Beehive and Parliament Buildings. A truly amazing experience.

“Tranquil and Lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

As most reviewers did, we took the red tram up the hill and walked slowly down a path marked with a pink stenciled flower amid rhododendron, native trees, poppies and flowering shrubs. Everywhere were sea views. The rose garden with its scurrying ducklings was the icing on the cake. We had heard about Wellington's windy, rainy weather, but we had a great day for seeing the Capitol's lovely showplace.

“Nice!”

Great park, lots of open spaces, lots of Tui's and beautiful plants. Great place to relax on a sunny day in the middle of the city!

“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

Up in the cable car - get the map at the top and wend your way down the hill. Stunning, varied, a plethora of plants, the views wonderful - the only sad part was the cafe in the Rose Garden closed at 4pm which I feel is to early for the time of year - late afternoon a great time to visit and there were certainly a lot of people about. The souvenir shop stays open until 5 and in my opinion, so should the cafe as if one walks down the Rose Garden is the perfect place for a quiet rest before walking into the city.

“Beautiful city centre gardens!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

Take the cable car from Lambton Quay (right in downtown shopping area) to the top, and then walk down. Be sure to have a glass of wine (and/or lunch) overlooking the rose garden.
