“A Most Fascinating Garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

A very lovely stroll all the way to the Observatory right at the top. I walked up from Lambton Quay to Parliament house beside the Beehive and the nice little Chapel through the fascinating little cemetery and onto the walkway bridge all the way to the beautiful Rose garden in the centre. Now that is something to behold. Quite remarkable I have to admit because I took so much time admiring the myriads of colourful and beautiful Roses and flowers I forgot the time. It is a wow of a place if you have your camera with you to which I did understandably. There is just so much wonderful and colourful flowers to see.

You will find there is also a greenhouse open to everyone and they have fantastic orchids and other plants in there that I have always admired. There is so much to read about and see it's just so informative. And if you are feeling hungry there is a nice coffee/tea shop there too if you want to stop and grab something but I have my water. Anyway a nice day and still so much to see I made my way to the Herb garden at the top where you can look down at the beautiful rose garden and sculptors and also some view of the beautiful city of Wellington. Just so wonderful.

But there is more flower gardens and much bigger rows on the other side which are just so mesmerising and quite fascinating really. Beautiful indeed and very colourful so take a seat and admire them if you like. I did. And take your time if you have so much because there is a bit of a walk from there past the nice duck pond, the Australian bush garden to which I am quite proud, past the child's playground all the way to the observatory and lookout right at the very top. Now that is a sight to see and well worth the lovely stroll up. You can check out the observatory if you are still energised which I will do some other time but today was all about the Botanical garden and the beautiful flowers. And just so you know it doesn't cost a cent more.

Such a beautiful stroll I throughly enjoyed it.

“Great stroll”

We took the cable car up and enjoyed a nice stroll around the gardens. Well laid out and easy to get around, although there are hills.

“Lots of variety”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Beautiful gardens to wander through. Views of the city and harbour from many vantage points. Can go up in tram and use walking paths to return to city. Lots of variety of plants and a large play area for the kids.

“One of the world's top gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

If you're fortunate to be in Wellington in February when all the rose bushes are in bloom, you'll be taken aback by the world class collection of roses here. Other sections and trails are equally spectacular, and the view of the city from the tram stop is one that gives one to pause and think "This is one of the most beautiful cities on the planet."
