“Ton of activity, great location, can't believe the price.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2014

The Hostel has MANY activities. My son watched a movie on Friday night. There were countless things to do that were coordinated by YHA. The rooms were good sized and we even had a view of the water from the room. There is a coffee shop as part of the hostel. It was very clean. The only issue was parking. I was lucky that I was there during a holiday so I was able to park near the hostel. There was a free designated parking area that wasn't far away.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Harbor.

Staff very friendly, great location near bars restaurants. Had room with private bathroom. Room was small, pretty basic and freezing, felt damp. Don't think I would recommend although the staff were great and near to supermarket.

Two nights in twin room with shared bathroom. Basic but clean. Reception was very helpful & cheap bagel / coffee breakfast available. Large canteen style eating area with well-equipped kitchen. Sofa's around to chill & plenty of literature on the area to read through. Best feature was central location - couldn't have been better. Right over the road from large New World supermarket for easy catering options. Close to main attractions like Te Papa museum & harbour markets. Easy stroll to main nightlife - recommend Vinyls (epic night) & Friday night food market was very atmospheric. If you're on a budget, you couldn't do better - recommend.

I stayed in a private double room with a shared bathroom for 4 nights. It was great, the room was fine, linen was clean and furnishings modern. The view wasn't amazing and my room was right next to a loud extraction fan thing outside but to be honest I didn't come to Wellington to sit in my room all day so this was NOT a problem. I was on the 6th floor and the wifi was great, I always had great connection and it never cut out. Since I am a YHA member this was also free so another bonus. The bathrooms were not very clean. There was a big matt of hair behind one of the toilets all the time I was there. But they do have a hair dryer AND straighteners in the ladies to use FoC!
To be honest I only used the kitchen one night, after 9pm, and it was pretty gross but hey, what can you do, I'm sure it's great during the days. The info boards in the reception area were great, loads of leaflets and local info plus details on cheap meal and drink offers in the city. The small coffee shop/ cafe next to reception was great. Fantastic deals on breakfast, a nice range and they even did honey lemon an ginger! Staff were friendly and informative and provided me with good advice and clear directions to places I had planned to go.
Really great location. Just off Cuba street. 10 minutes to Te Papa, 15 to Lambton Quay. Right over the road from a massive New World. If you are getting Naked Bus, get off at the Base backpackers as it's only a 2 minute walk from there!
All in all, a good stay.

My friend and I stayed at YHA Wellington for a night last week (8/8/2014). The hostel was surprisingly good considering we only paid $33 NZD per person. We shared room 606 with this lovely lady from Mt Manganui. The only thing I didn't like was the shower - the water pressure was WAY too low and it was freezing that day...... Great city central location, close to Te Papa, pubs/bars/restaurants, just 2minute walk to the New World supermarket and the fire station is just across the street (LOL, I guess that's good just in case if there's a fire, haha), close to bus stops (including the 91 Airport Flyer). The room was a bit cold as well so you might want to bring or ask for extra blankets in winter. Overall it was a great stay, good value, highly recommended.

Room Tip: YHA members get wifi for free.

YHA in Wellington is like star hotel not Hostel. We stayed in a four people room which has own bathroom that is really amazing! And the price is very very nice! Good stay in Wellington! The only problem is the coffee in the morning was so terrible. Maybe YHA need a good barista:)

Attended a conference. Decided to stay at the YHA. My previous experiences in YHA in Australia were awesome. Was about friendly, inclusive, family, like-minded folk, community area, chat with interesting folk. Unlike hotels, very impersonal as far as other people go. Loved my stay in Wtgn at the hostel. Booked a private double. Outstanding. The bathroom star 5. Supermarket right next door. Very respectful other folk and yet friendly.
