“Worth a return visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

This was our second visit to the museum, having been there several years ago.
The dioramas remain evocative and authentic, summarizing Wellington's history as a maritime base. Lots of ships, services, and events, from daily cargo delivery to wars and disasters.
The time line was even more interesting, as it highlights events over the years affecting Wellingtonians.
If you are a museum buff, as I am, you will appreciate the interesting and unique presentations of Wellington's maritime history.

“The Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

We were so surprised with the Museum, it was so well set out, with amazing displays, very informative, and very restful. We were greeted so warmly when we entered, this set the tone for our visit, we only wished we had set aside more time, to explore and read more of the information supplied. Not very well advertised as to what it really contains, but great location once one has learned about Wellington. We will return. as you should also. Gay from Riverton B&B

“Best Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

The outside of the building gives no clues to how excellent this museum is. I spent about 1 hour, went out for coffee and food, and then came back. Its quite small, only 3 floors, but lots to see. An excellent insight into the history of Wellington

“Not what you would expect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

This is a musuem that isn't really a museum!? As you enter make sure you look closely at the life-size dioramas; if you look closely you will see rats and cats and all sorts of things. Make sure to talk to the hosts who will add much of interest to your visit. The museum often has lectures and performances in the main gallery space; again ask your hosts.

“Great museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

Very interesting museum on the history of Wellington. They have a great timeline with plenty of pictures and examples, some interactive exhibits too. There were several areas specific to children's activities. Plenty of reading material as well as several movies and audio presentations.
