Spent a night here recently and was delighted with the ambience, decor and inspired by the Brent Wongs! This hotel is just opposite Te Papa and is festooned by local masterpieces, every corner has great pieces on display. Do try Hippopotamus and do be impressed by the 2011 pinot and drambui in the mini bar!!!

I visited this Hotel on Monday this week to visit a friend who was staying there. The Hotel and all it's facilities are amazing, shame about the attitudes of a manager. I witnessed a terrible situation for a member of staff. A woman staff member was abusing another staff member in the hallway of the floor we were on. It would be enough to call it emotional blackmail and abuse. I believe the Human Rights Commission would like to hear about this as no person should have to work under these conditions. If you require further information of the name in question you are more than welcome to ask me. I know I would not want to be treated this way by a superior.

I have tried to follow this up with the non guest reviewer but no response. Knowing my reaction, none of my staff would behave this way. I don't believe this is a genuine review!

It really doesn't matter how you gild the mirrors....if the room is frightful and in our case dangerous, then purple walls and kooky art work is not going to distract you. What a perfect location and an opportunity to create a unique "stay" at Wellington, sadly this was not our experience We managed to score a room that looked like a set from "one flew over the cuckoo's nest." Replete with low suspended panel ceilings and red warning light globe, and a bathroom that Nurse Ratchet would be happy to hose you out in....WARNING, do not enter the bathroom if any one has showered; created for those safely clamped into a wheel chair, a shower creates a slick of water floods the slippery tiles of the entire bathroom. How we managed to avoid a broken bone with a huge slip made, is a miracle....although bruising and aching joints was not the souvenir we wanted to take home.
Our entire experience was exceptionally disappointing, and we won't even mention the breakfast service....The Museum Hotel.... Looks are very deceiving!

Room Tip: Ask to look at your room before you commit.

The room you 'scored' is designed to accommodate those who are disabled, and in wheelchairs. (The red warning light is the fire alarm for those with hearing disabilities). They are designed to a legal requirement which we, as a responsible corporate citizen, support. This includes a 'no step' bathroom floor. In my opinion, with careful use, it presents no danger at all.

Had we known you would find this room offensive, we would (assuming we were not full) have offered you an alternative. I'm sorry you felt it necessary to have written such a review.

My husband and I were excited to be staying at this hotel as part of our honeymoon around New Zealand. The quirky art throughout the lobby, really drew us in, as did the helpful email bookings team and we were happy to pay the $309 price tag.

Unfortunately, it was to be the worst hotel and night of our honeymoon and we strongly advise against staying here.

Upon entering our room, we noticed the carpet had a curious white stain in the corner by the desk, we found the previous occupant's sock by the chaise and all four pillows had fresh mascara marks & two hairs. In all, staff hadn't cleaned the room properly before we checked in. We'd booked months in advance and with check ins starting at 3pm and our arrival just before 11pm, there was no excuse.

We ended up photographing the pillows for our friends on Facebook to see and called room service to switch the pillows (the pillow service being the only saving grace at this hotel). When the staff member arrived we showed them the hairs & mascara. Don't remember now what he said, but it didn't appear to surprise him.

It was only due to the rest of the bedding appearing to be clean, being able to see our vehicle from our room (it was full of our wedding gear and wedding gifts) and the time of night (midnight by the time our pillows were switched), that we ended up sleeping on top of the covers and spent as minimal time as possible, in our room.

On check out, we told the manager and she waived the credit card payment fee ($7 or so). Says it all really.

Human error, our mistake. Cleaning obviously hadn't been completed but was erroneously cleared into the system.
You would have been offered a fresh room except we were completely full. Next time you visit, the room is on me. I'm really sorry to have ruined your evening. Especially a Honeymoon evening.

I had a delightful stay here for a conference, in a Premier studio with a kitchenette that saved me a lot of money making my own breakfasts. There is a New World grocery store half a block away with everything you need, and across the street is Commonsense Organics, a lovely market. On Sunday I picked up all sorts of fresh New Zealand fruits and veggies at a market beside the Te Papa Museum. Be sure to try the delicious NZ Tangerines while you are here and take some time to enjoy Te Papa Museum, it's incredible. The Museum Art Hotel has a lobby and public areas loaded with contemporary art of all sorts, and the rooms give your eyes a pause as they are not highly decorated. But they are loaded with delightful details you should take advantage of. Such as the chaise lounge right beside the window to enjoy the Wellington views, the pillow menu and nightly lavender scenting that they will provide you upon request, the bright orange espresso maker, and the complimentary bath bombs that you can drop into the deep soaker tub at the end of a work day. Heavenly. The bathtub/shower configuration takes some getting used to, but by the end of my stay I had it all down pat. There's a nice little gym and a lap pool with whirlpool and sauna that you can follow with a moment of sun on the small outdoor deck. The best part is that unlike other apartment hotels I've stayed at everyday you get housekeeping services here, which really makes a difference to the cleanliness level.
All in all a wonderful place with enough unique and thoughtful touches to really distinguish itself from the chain hotels.

Room Tip: Request an even-numbered room on an upper floor and you will hopefully get a water view. The odd num...

We made the mistake of coming in to Wellington without a booking. We stopped at this Hotel and the fellow in front of us booked the very last room. Catrina was incredible. She called about ten places for us and found one of the very last rooms in the city within a short walk to the museum. We were so grateful! Thank you for going above and beyond. The hotel looks amazing...the staff certainly were!! Next time we will book here.

we stayed there for three nights and we were very pleased to see how central this hotel is, and how great the room and service was. The rooms are quiet and clean, with a very decent size for the beds. Breakfast buffet was good and offered all sorts of choices.
