The Featherston is what you call a classic pub. Unpretentious, simple, and comfortable. Yes it is an older pub compared to some of the upstarts that are also on Featherston Street, but this pub has also moved with the times while clinging on with the essential things that make bars great.
Firstly the inside has been refreshed in tasteful and airy tones while still maintaining the sort of hangout you would want to take your mates too to watch the game or the races at the TAB.
The selection of beers is not the broadest that can be found but they are all great beers and you certainly will not go wrong with the craft beers that are available on tap and in bottles.
The food is awesome, whether you are sitting down to have a nice meal with your wife or you want a few simple pleasures to go with the beer while watching the games. The battered fish and chips are the best I've had in a long time, while the vegetarians would like the sweetcorn fritters with mango sauce. These are great too.
This is the only place I know where you can by cherios (small sausages) by the pound while you are drinking beer with your mates. It is also the only place I know where you can get a whole Flounder (flat fish), pouched to beautiful tenderness and still taste as fresh as it when it was caught.
The service is fantastic and always ensuring that you are having a great experience.
I think overall it may not be the cheapest pub around nor is it the trendiest, but the Featherston feels the most homely and familiar as if you have been there numerous times before. Because of this, you should go and experience it. Enjoy the simple pleasures of being in a pub without the fuss and hype of the others.
