Recently visited to see NZ Opea's performance of Madam Butterfly. To make a memorable night out you need a great performance and a wonderful venue. So how did it go. Fantastic performance by the cast, seen this opera in several cities around the world and this ranks as one of the best, not an empty seat in the house. The theatre itself with a huge opening foyer with high ceilings offered a warm inviting welcome. Plenty of places to get a pre-show drink inside which were reasonably priced. Lovely sweeping staircase to teh entrances for the grand circle seats which added to it's majesty. Inside the theatre revels it's real charm, intimate audience to stage setting makes it fell like you are on stage with the cast no matter where you sit. The style of bygone years still shines through a real nostalgic trip of what a grand nigh out at the opera or theatre should be. On hte down side, the seats can be a little uncomfortable after a while and why an usher decided to show 3 people noislily to their seats half way through a performance I do not know.
