“Excellent location - pity about the rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We stayed for 3 nights and chose the hotel as it was a short walk from the Basin Reserve. The best thing about this hotel turned out to be its location. Virtually opposite Moore Wilson's it was an easy walk to all the central attractions. There are plenty of quality coffee shops, bakeries, bars and restaurants to choose from. There is multi-storey carparking right beside the hotel and it's about the right price for a city centre location. Sadly we saw far too much of it in our 3 days. Our room was modern but compact and probably the smallest room we had in our 8 weeks in NZ. This was made worse by the "joke" balcony that was 2 metres from the carpark level M and so made the room quite claustrophobic (the hotel was full as it was the weekend of the cricket). The room blinds did not block out all the light from the carpark and we did not sleep well. One night we were woken by the fire alarm at 2.00am. We filed out through the carpark and sat on a wall on Tory Street for 40 minutes before going back to our room via the carpark. Not recomended especially at this price.

Very clean, very modern 1-bedroom apartment in a good area of town, close to Courtenay Place and all the restaurants there. 90% of Wellington is walkable, and this hotel will leave you close to most of it. Front desk staff was very friendly, and very helpful. Close to Moore Wilsons (upscale grocery store, like Whole Foods but with more selection), coffee, restaurants, bars. Shower was great, washing/drying machine was in the room (but we had some issues with it running for hours for a wash cycle) and cleaned the clothes.

Paid NZ$30 for 72 hours of internet access - have no idea if this is a reasonable price. There is free wifi available in the Central Business district, but this hotel is 2-3 blocks south of that free wi-fi zone. Parking was NZ$20/day, and we found that based on the size of the city, bus routes, taxis, and the hotel location, renting a car isn't necessary.

The hotel has a deal with one local taxi company for NZ$20 airport runs (metered, it's about NZ$30). Ask for it.

We booked this through Orbitz, so I don't know the exact price we paid for 4 nights, but overall, we'd stay there again.

Booked here for weekend away and for ease to walk around waterfront and local eateries. Excellent location for what we wanted.

Have stayed at other chain motels in Wellington which were far better priced for what you got. Found quality of rooms not up to quality of photos used in advertising on their website. Rooms budget furnishing, carpets stained, large flat screen tv on lounge wall couldn't be angled to watch from lounge suite, no tv in bedroom, bathtub very high and slightly dangerous when getting in and out of shower.

Bed comfortable and linen clean. Had fire alarm go off during the night which was interesting.

Easy driving directions to get to Hotel and leave Wellington. Would likely stay elsewhere due to price.

Room Tip: Had road facing room, could hear usual city noise from outside.

When we arrived my husband was feeling quite ill, we asked for a quiet room and they obliged with an 8th floor room at the back of the hotel. Sadly in the 2 days we stayed there, the fire alarm went off twice and we had to traipse down over 8 flights of tubular metal stairs with crowds of young people, then stand out on the road/sidewalk until the all-clear was given - at 2:30 am this was a miserable experience, at 4 pm, not quite so, but when (husband was) feeling sickly was still an ordeal. There was no fire or explanation given but it left a sour taste behind.
Otherwise the location is excellent and the kitchen supplies adequate for a self-serviced stay of several days.
The front desk readily supplied a standing fan to help regulate the air flow in our stuffy room, when asked and were kind in all other requests.

Room Tip: Ask for the back to get quiet sleep. Correct the fire alarm issue!

I stay at this hotel reguarly for business trips to Wellington. Location is excellent in Tory St, being close to Courtenay Place and a short walk to waterfront. The apartment style hotel suits me well, particularly with Moore Wilson just over the road is easy to buy food to use in the self catering units. It doesn't have any restaurant, but with plenty of options very close by isn't a problem. The staff always provide very good service, and always are very accomodating. Some of the lower floor units on the street side can be noisy from traffic, and I always make sure that I stay on the street side as the rear of the building faces into a carpark. There is no A/C but rooms have opening doors/windows depending on the room. The gym...is very old equipment.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors have less traffic noise, and ask for a street side room as the rooms on the r...

Fully fledged studio w/ oven, dishwasher and microwave. Unfortunately, there is limited mechanical ventilation and (as far as I could tell) no air-con so the relatively small room w/ low ceiling becomes stuffy & hot with even minimal cooking. Yes, there is a balcony w/ sliding door which improves the situation in summer :-)
Overall a decent modern place and fair value for money.

Room Tip: Try a room away from Tory Street

Stayed for 4 nights with my partner. Not going to lie, the location is great - very close to all amenities and a lot of eateries to choose from on Tory Street; however like many of you had said already the worst thing is there was no air cond! What type of high priced hotel/apartment does not provide this?? If you plan to go in summer to stay here, pre warning you don't stay here! It gets stuffy and hot, you try to open the windows etc but the noise from the carparks and streets escape in; therefore creating no sleep at all! In addition, carpark was very inconvenient to access and the staff were friendly but had no clue whatsoever in customer service.. she had not shown us how to access the car park which lead to a very crappy start of our holiday! Washing machine was very difficult to use, would be great if they had provided instructions. TV channels were all incorrect and after playing around for a while we figured they had muddled all the channels up (they should of updated their manual!). The kitchen was well equipped but thorough cleaning needs to be done. Overall the experience was average, this type of hotel is more suitable for young people who won't mind noisy streets/atmosphere. If you want a quiet weekend, I would suggest try something else.

Room Tip: If anyone plans to get the superior one bedroom, be warned the TV is in the living room not in the b...
