We stayed at the Brick House B & B for 6 nights broken up into two 3 night stays with a week in between in the Nelson area. We were very impressed with this place - it was the first place we stayed on our trip. Chris was very friendly, has a wealth of information on Wellington and other places too - we took up many of his suggestions and he was always spot on with the best way to get there, what to expect etc. The breakfasts were great & tea/coffee always available - the continental style works so well because you can have breakfast on your own schedule. We met another wonderful couple while staying here - definitely the whole experience made me so glad we stayed in a B & B rather than a motel.
The location is very convenient to walk to Te Papa, lots of restaurants & the CBD - we liked the walk back up the hill in the evening to work off a little dinner before relaxing for the evening. Parking can be challenging as the side street is narrow and very busy - just coming from the US and getting used to driving on the left it was a little intimidating but we were always able to get a parking spot very close to the house & after a day or two we had the whole thing down. If you plan to leave the car parked during the week there is a $7.50 NZD fee for coupon parking, no charge on weekends.
Chris is a great host, very good at judging how much interaction guests want - he's very friendly & will chat at length if you enjoy that (which I did) but he's not at all intrusive if you prefer less interaction. Ruth is very nice too, you just see more of Chris as he works from home.
As others have said it is very close to the city so it can be a little noisy with traffic - I didn't find it to be too bad where it was a problem; it's a trade off for the convenience of the location. All in all, a great place to stay & very good value.
