“Weta cave review from a Wellingtonian”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

I recently visited weta cave with an overseas visitor staying with me in Wellington. I felt proud of this wonderful and interesting local attraction. Even if you're not really into Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit etc it showcases the enormous talent and passion of those who work here. The behind the scenes tour cost $20 and was good value for money. There is also a free film but our timing wasn't right so I'lll have to see it next time. I will definitely take future visitors to this Wellington gem.

“A LoTR Fan's Dream”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

We caught the # 2 bus straight there from the airport (you need to walk out of the airport to Caledonia Street) and spent an hour in the shop before doing the new Workshop Tour which was well worth the $20 paid per person. It gives you an excellent insight into the process that occurs to create even the smallest props.

“A must see in Miramar, Wellington!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

If you love the movies, you should pay a visit! My only warning is don't expect a massive Hollywood-style presentation. It's small, it's predominantly a Collectibles Retail store with a small theatre and a VERY small Collectibles/Props museum...but it's so VERY COOL! AND FREE!! I enjoyed the 25 minute video - very informative.

Recently WINDOWS IN TO WORKSHOP tours were added and at NZ$20 p/adult it's well worth it. To be taken through a 45-odd minute tour of some of the items produced by Weta is great - and the fact the tour guides are actual Workshop artists gives a unique perspective to the tour. No photos allowed though, but considering the legal requirements explained, I can understand. You can take photos in the store though - some pretty awesome stuff to see!!

What started out as an hour "look-see" for my wife, 6 year old son and I turned in to 3 1/2 hours of high quality family time.

Hi Kent H

Thanks for visiting and you're fantastic review.
We try and do the best with the (limited) space we have - and the Window into Workshop has definitely allowed us to give just that little bit more to our customers.

Hope to see you again

Cheers

“Great for LOTR fans!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

It was a smalll museum of artifacts from the movies, a free video about it all, and a gift shop. If you are a LOTR fan it is worth the visit. The life sized sculptures alone are worth seeing. The gifts are pretty expensive, but that is to be expected.
