“Pure indulgence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

Deliciously decadent decor in the restaurant bar matched only by the cocktails - extraordinarily well presented making it a very memorable experience. Looking forward to next time.

“Best night out in Wellington!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary in Wellington and we dined at Hippopotomous. The food, and the presentation was impressive. The service was attentive and friendly without being snobbish. Since it was our annivarsary they made a special note of it. Doesnt take much to pick up on how the little things matter to customers and they do it well. I could not have picked a better restaurant for
our special night in Wellington. We had salmon, snapper and upside down apple tart which was amazing. All dishes had the exact type of sauces that I love on them. Including non-alcoholic drinks our meal came to $204 which isn't bad. I think Hippo has a little more going for it than Logan Brown in terms of valet parking, amazing views and a classy chic environment. Would go back.

“ambience and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

We booked this restaurant following recommendations from friends as we needed a pre theatre dinner prior to seeing Madame Butterfly. We arrived at 5.30pm as instructed and were seated with a view in a beautiful room with a definite French Connection. The menu was the usual choice of entrée, main and dessert with a recommended cocktail to start. We opted not to have wine on this occasion. The food was excellent and we left wanting to go back for a degustation dinner next time we had the opportunity to return to wellington. Having said that we are going to try the Le Canard at the end of June when we attend the Phantom of the Opera but we will definately be back to the Hippopotamus on another occasion. Highly recommend this restaurant for its ambience and excellent food.

“Looking for Fine Dining?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

This restaurant is definitely not one to miss if you are looking for fine dining in Wellington. In fact it beats many of the other places with more of a reputation locally.

The menu is well thought out and the wine list is extensive enough to meet anyone's palate.

“Wonderful food and great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013 via mobile

Despite the hideous decor (imagine a gay interior designer on crack. In the 80s), this is a fantastic restaurant. The food is among the best in Wellington, if not the best. And the service is impeccable. The private room is great for a working dinner. I will keep in coming back.
