“Good food; order at the bar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

One of the few places on Cuba Street with an outdoor seating area. I had the Monday special lamb shank on mashed potatoes with carrots, green beans, gravy. The special included a 'handle' (pint) of draught for a total of $19. This was a good value - lots of meat, great quality pub food. Murphy's salad had lots of chewy greens and a whitish cheese that resembled feta but was not salty. The salad was very good but had a little too much dressing for my liking -$15.

But do they really want customers here? We sat, menu in hand, for 10-15 minutes while the waiter cleaned off tables and studiously ignored us. Finally after approaching him directly, he said we had to order inside at the bar. Why didn't he just tell us that instead of hoping we would figure it out eventually? This ended up a quite good choice in terms of food and (eventually) service; but it did make me wonder.

“Cheap tasty lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

The $12 lunch menu has has a good variety on it if you want a quick and cheap lunch. The corn fritters were tasty and served with a juicy piece of bacon plus some lettuce. The mini burger was a good size for lunch and although reasonably plain without excess fillings it was tasty. The chips were a yellowy colour but tasty great. The lunch special also provides a $5 house wine or beer to whet your whistle.

“A Rip Off”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We ordered the lunch special which was $10 per main and $5 for an accompanying beer or wine. Took our beers outside and had a pleasant time chatting while waiting for the food. One order only arrived. When we queried where the other was we were told that we had been given beers that weren’t those on the specials menu (that is they weren’t handles) so the special didn’t apply. We queried why this hadn’t been mentioned when we placed the order but were given no satisfactory response, in fact I don’t even remember that there was a response. While I felt that this was a genuine mistake, we left feeling ripped off. If you go there check your orders and your change.

“Wow great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

After walking up and down Cuba Street on a Monday night in September, we decided that the Irish Pub looked inviting. After a couple of whiskeys while looking over the menu, we decided on Kidneys and Mushrooms for partner and Lambs Fry and Bacon for me. The meals arrived in good time even though it seemed very busy. The portions were very large and the mashed potato was fantastic. Our meal was fantastic and the bar staff were capable, with the manager up for a bit of a playful dig. Great place.

“Great atmosphere”

Great place for a pub meal, especially the huge lamb shanks. Quiz night on Tuesday evenings is a great night out.
