“Convenient location, mediocre rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

We booked 2 nights in the harbour view room at the Sebel Trinity. On arrival we were very disappointed with the view, as it looked out onto trees, and we had to step onto the deck and look right to get the water view. On the website it shows water visible through the windows. This is deceptive as the photo is not of the harbour view room. The same photo is also on the premium water view room on the website. We upgraded to the premium spa room. This room was much better. However, once again it did not look like photos on the website.
The staff were efficient and friendly and did give us a small discount. The reception was nice, and the location quite good. However, we would not stay again as it wasn’t anything special.

Room Tip: Don't trust the photos on the website for water views

I took my very elderly mother to the Sebel for their 2011 Christmas Lunch thinking it would be a very special treat. The Christmas Grinch was in charge of the Sebel Trinity Wharf Tauranga and was determined to create as miserable an occasion as possible. I have had better meals at a fast food outlet and at least there they refresh the serving area. The Sebel obviously thought it was a fast food outlet as there was no ambiance, no music Christmas or otherwise. I cannot think of one redeeming aspect of the lunch and I was overwhelmingly disappointed as it will probably be the last time my mother is able to go out for Christmas lunch. I would never recommend this hotel to visitors for accomodation or meals as the experience including the attitude of staff is indicative of a dysfunctional organisation.

This hotel is a modern building partly built over the water of Tauranga Harbour (public areas and some rooms overhang the water). The more expensive rooms overhang the water buit some of the middle priced rooms also have reasonable views of the harbour. There is some noise from the road outside and the adjacent harbour bridge. It is just within easy walking distance of the restaurant area.
Rooms are spacious and well equipped.
It has a swimming pool, gym and free car parking.
There is a restaurant and bar. Service at the bar in the afternoon was some what lacklustre (slow service and ignored at one point) but when it arrived the high tea was good. We did note have meals here.

Room Tip: Ask to see the map and look for rooms facing east (2nd floor better).

Thanks to on line coupons we can occasionally afford to stay at the Sebel - we love it - room with a small deck & chairs over looking the sea - something I had never experienced before. Staff obviously well trained & can't be faulted - this goes for all staff - Reception, Restaurant etc. The decor of the Hotel & rooms are very nice. We have only had breakfasts in the restaurant but were more than impressed, food was exceptional in quality as well as choice. There is plenty of parking - underground as well as standard car park at the door.
We can't wait to go to the Sebel again.

We booked and stayed over night at the Sebel Trinity Wharf Tauranga. Reservations booking was easy and confirmed straight away via email. On arrival a warm welcome as if they were waiting for us. The entrance displayed their Xmas Tree and stockings hanging on the hearth it was like we had just stepped into a home. The music playing quietly complimented the view of the harbour straight ahead. The room had everything we required, space, amenities and quiet :). Unfortuatly we didnt have the opportunity to eat, however the dinning area looked inviting and we are definatly going back to enjoy again.
As a New Zealander, it was wonderful to experience a 1st class hotel in our own country. The advertised prices are affordable for a special night or weekend away in a wonderful city such as Tauranga... Highly recommend

Room Tip: Request the ground floor at the back of the hotel

I was really impressed by this hotel - the rooms were large, very clean, modern, quiet, had fantastic bathrooms, and we experienced excellent service. The only small negative was that is was a bit of a maze to find your way back to your room from reception/dining in the wing we were staying (but this wouldn't stop me recommending the hotel at all). The buffet breakfast was fantastic and the lunch/dinner meals we had were also great - the restaurant looks out over the water with stunning views. Highly recommended.

We booked 2 nights with grabone escapes at a very special price, we also took along our 3 year old daughter, their was no charge for her as she shared our king size bed, we were in room 123 with a balcony that sat about metre or so off the water!!!!! so when you looked down you could see many fish - mainly very large stingrays swimming under you!! there were also large starfish, small kingfish and many sprats, the fish hung a round all day but there were alot in the early evening, it was amazing to see even for us adults who have been to the like of fiji and rarotonga etc. It was amazing for my 3 year old to see the fish up close. also the bird life was amazing shags, herons etc. all making there home in the flowering trees.

The staff were amazing especially to our 3 year old, didn't see many other children, looked more like a business meeting place, but dont let that take you off it, each morning our daughter was treated by the manager to chocolate and fruit pastries by the manager. On our last day she was given a container fill for the trip home which was lovely.

The pool is good to just big enough to do laps and enjoy the view of the harbour.

We look forward to returning again when down that way.

Regards

Hydes family

Room Tip: pay a bit more for the harbour view it is worth it.
