This was a lovely place to stay.. It was so central to everything and staff knew the area very well. I liked the added extra touches to the complimentary drink due to being a smidgen late with it but was no problem. The place was very tidy, quiet and bed was very comfortable and clean! Oh and the spa bath was a lovely added bonus.

We stayed here for 2 nights and found it really central to everything. Great little town to visit. This was the 4th hotel we had stayed in since NZ and the first to pre authorise our Credit Card for $100 per night. After 5 days the money had still not been lifted off our credit card. I called reception and expressed my concerns they told me it can take up to 1 month if its an overseas credit card. So international people be aware. You should not have to pre authorise a card for $100 PER NIGHT! I left a happy customer but not anymore.

Hi Candice

Thank you for taking the time to write a review concerning your recent stay with Hotel on Devonport.

I was delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay with us however we are sincerely sorry that you encountered problems after your departure.

It is standard hotel practice to take a credit card pre-authorisation on arrival to cover any expenses that you may accumulate while at the hotel, this covers meals, minibar, telephone and any other costs associated with your room. On departure we immediately cancel this refund minus any expenses. This is an automated process but unfortunately we do not have any control on when each credit card company will release this hold on your credit card.

We apologise if this process was not clearly outlined on arrival and do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back to Hotel on Devonport in the future.

We did a last minute on this hotel and were really pleased we went. Good rooms and the service staff are lovely and friendly. Location is fabulous if you want to shop , eat out or go to the movies. Secure parking is an added bonus. We'll go back for sure.

Initially when we arrived outside the hotel we were a it concerned that it is on one of the main streets in the town and we wondered whether noise would be an issue. It wasn't in fact we heard no noise from street level at all. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, check in was easy and the added bonus is free parking in the secure car park behind and attached to the hotel. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Free wi-fi is only available in the hotel foyer but by plug-in modem in the room with a charge.

All in all we were very happy with our stay, the hotel is in a great location for both shopping and restaurants.

we stayed at the hotel davenport during the easter break. the location is awesome, and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby. there is free parking and we got welcome drink on arrival. the interiors are very clean and the bed is very comfortable. There is a balcony, which was a bonus. The receptionist was very helpful, in assisting us with parking and early checkout. The reviews for this hotel, are spot on and this is one the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Truly wonderful !!

Room was comfortable, clean and had a good shower. It was quite spacious, although a bit warm with heating that we didn’t seem to be able to control. The complimentary drink on arrival is a lovely touch. Reception staff were extremely helpful, and the complimentary apples in the foyer were a hit with our three-year-old. They have huge umbrellas at reception that you can borrow if needed. The entry to the carpark is at the back of the building at the end of The Strand. The location is very convenient for dining and shopping. It’s a pity there is no pool, although we would definitely stay here again.

We had enjoyable meals at Bravo (on Red Square) and at Harbourside (behind the building). Both were child friendly and our son especially enjoyed the fruit and vegetable platter from the kids’ menu at Harbourside. We were a bit disappointed with our meals at Lone Star on The Strand. There are some nice shops in this area – check out the Piccadilly Arcade and the Goddard Arcade. The toy shop across the road from Hotel on Devonport is very good too.

This hotel is located, as its name suggests, on Devonport Road, one of the main shopping streets of Tauranga. It is very convenient for the traveller arriving by car because there is a dedicated security carpark for hotel guests (enter and go to level 3), which is accessed from the Strand.

On arrival we were greeted very pleasantly and the check-in process was swift and efficient. The lobby is a little stark but that is consistent with the modernist theme that the hotel strikes. A nice touch that was a little more homely was the basket of fresh apples in the lobby which guests were encouraged to sample.

Our room was an executive king room on level 7 and was very well appointed and laid out. The bathroom was large and had both a spa bath and separate shower. A modest mini bar was available with a range of snacks. The in house TV was a full Sky TV service. The bed was comfortable and nicely "furnished", though perhaps a little soft for some. There was a nice touch in the complimentary glass of wine that was brought to the room once were had settled in, though the waiter delivering it was not the most polished performer! It was good to be asked expressly whether we wanted a morning paper.

Negative notes were that the rooms are not well sound proofed - we were woken by people knocking on adjacent doors at several times. Also there was a pervasive scent of spiced apples in the corridors which we traced finally to a plug-in air freshener. Had we been required to stay for long in the corridor, the scent would have become eye watering. Internet connection is by wifi in the lobby but otherwise by cable in-room (and with a limited data allowance) at a charge of about $17 per day. The sooner that changes and wifi is available throughout, the better.

In house dining options are limited and that is very probably because of the proximity to the hotel of the main hospitality precinct in Tauranga (literally a 3 minute walk away down Devonport Road to the Strand).

There is little doubt that HoD is the best hotel accommodation in Tauranga. We would rate it on an international scale at 3.5 stars. Comfortable, well appointed, and modern but without some of the amenities and touches that would be expected in hotels of higher rating.
