“Just what the Strand needed - a quality eatery with a high standard!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

We happened upon Brooklyn on a night out in Tauranga. In the place of the tired Za Bar was a glorious eatery with a pleasant outdoor seating are – great to have comfortable chairs and plenty of atmosphere.

We took advantage of the happy Hour when the were serving the local Mills Reef wines at $6 glass – well done Brooklyn for pushing the high quality local product.

Up Stairs what a change! Where there was once just a bar now there is a pizza oven and restaurant kitchen. The emphasis is on “food designed to share” and a number of items for 3 or 6 persons. Notable on the menu is the identification of vegetarian and gluten free offering – another brownie point!

Number one in our estimation was the wood fried pizzas and top of the billing
Brooklyn with smoked bacon, pepperoni, and wood fried chicken, mushroom &BBQ sauce all on a pizza bas with tomato, mozzarella and onion – what a feast!

So if you are out on the town and in the Strand then give the Brooklyn a try – it s great!

“a quick lunch time meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

We had early lunch and ended up eating a wood fire pizza which was amazing. Great service would certainly recommend.

“Great tapas, even better the service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Had a range of tapas (small plates to share) for dinner one night. Set on the patio upstairs.

Highlights:
- Ambience was great
- Tapas were lovely, fresh and tasty. Highly recommend the grilled haloumi & the Chorizo & Calamari (which we ordered twice. The sliders were also lovely. Wasn't a big fan of the duck spring rolls though.
- view was great
- it got a littly chilly so the staff handed us blankets (nice touch).
- Service was amazing. Good recommendations and we were checked on regularly.
- Reasonably priced food & drinks

No negatives at all.

“Mediocre”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We popped into Brooklyn over the Easter weekend. Although I understand that the place is better known for their wood fired pizzas we followed the waitress’s recommendation and tried the tapas style “plates to share”. Unfortunately the very appealing description of the dishes on the menu did not match the food itself. The ingredients were fresh but the overall tasting experience was bland and under seasoned. This might work for some but I expected more of a taste bud treat from the tapas.
Having said that the staff were very attentive and friendly and the sour dough garlic bread was delicious. Taking the prime location into consideration the dishes were reasonably priced. I’d go there again but would give the pizzas a try instead.

“A-mazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

We popped in for a late dinner and were extremely impressed! The pizza was great, and served promptly. The service was no less than excellent - staff are all friendly and accommodating, and its obvious that they enjoy their workplace. You won't regret visiting this great little bar. Great work team.
