We have been staying at this hotel on and off for quite a few years. We always look forward to staying. The extensive well-maintained gardens and lawns are part of the charm. Sunny hideaway corners and hot pools are also part of its appeal. Interestingly, the recent diversion of State Highway one which no longer runs past the resort has made the area more tranquil. The rooms are good and the main dining room, The Pavilion, provides good quality dining. It is close to great golf course and LakeTaupo is not far distant. Add to that, beautiful walking tracks along the banks of the nearby Waikato river and there is plenty to do. The room rates are pretty reasonable, too.

Have been coming back to the resort for many years now and have never been disappointed. In saying that the rooms could do with a little spruce up and the facilities improved.
It is what you make it. we had a great time with friends and the resort made it an easy spot for the adults and kids to do there own socialising. The hot pool could have been a bit warmer but you have to ensure that you have it right for all so well justified.

Stayed here with my 8 yr old daughter & my friend and her 9 yr old. The room was clean and very comfortable. We liked it being on the ground floor as easier with kids and close to the pool. Just be aware if you want robes and full sky tv you need to upgrade your room. The top pool was just lovely and with a forest next door the setting was picture perfect! There is a choice of restaurants - we went the buffet way which was fine. There is a bottom level pool which is quieter. Heaps of stuff for the kids - tennis, golf putting , play ground and pools. There is a BP across the road for supplies. The staff were helpful and friendly. We would recommend and would stay again.

This hotel isn't new but is still a great place to stay. No matter if you want to be active and use the gym, heated pools, golf course, squash courts etc or if you just have a quiet day or two in the cosy bars and restaurants there will be a spot in the expansive grounds that suit you. It can be quiet in the winter or a bustling hub in the summer but always welcomes with friendly staff that are polite and always down to earth. Most of the hotel has been refurbished and rooms are nice without being ultra modern. I have been coming here for many years and stayed in all room types sometimes with kids, sometimes just as a couple and it has always been a good break. Keep an eye out for specials.

Room Tip: Be specific if you want a quiet room though it is a very peaceful hotel The only noise can come from...

We found this place by accident as we were just driving past and they had their very cheap rates out the front. It was $130 for the night for 3 of us and the rooms were very luxurious. A highlight was swimming in the 38 degree pool, steam coming off it. The air was freezing! It was great to swim around in the warmth. Also spas. The meals were great as well and the staff very efficient. Would have liked to stay longer.

Stayed here many times over the years especially when the kids were at home .More recent times have seen the nearby Wairakei Golf Club as the attraction (resort has a 9 hole course). Town is then accessable by the non golfers to keep all entertained .
Entering from the cold into a very warm resort is just heaven . The front desk team are always professional helful and accomidating . Rooms are modern well maintained and adequate (and warm in winter) and the outdoor pool is great as to are the gardens.
Plenty of menu choice available and wait staff are usually a range of young world travellers adding variety into the evening

If your traveling in NZ with kids and you are looking for somewhere to stay for a few days in the central North island then stay here.
Its a grand old hotel with big safe grounds, that's really kid friendly and really well located for you to do loads of day activities and then come back to relax and wind down somewhere comfy.
The rooms are cosy and although basic, are clean and tidy and very reasonably priced.
The restaurant is buffet style and not at all fine dining, you can feed the kids and have a meal at the end of the day without worrying about the sprats annoying other diners, who no doubt will have their own sprats raiding the dessert table.
Did I mention they have a great hot pool open from 6am to 11pm. So yes after breakfast a soak in the pool, off for your days activities then back for tea then a soak/play in the pool and the kids will sleep like angels. chances are they will make nice new friends and you will have a great time floating around. There is also another lovely swimming pool across the complex, great lit tennis courts and a kids play ground.
The staff are friendly and very helpful.
From Wairakei which is about 5 min from Taupo and about an hour from Rotorua there really is loads of family stuff to do. If the kids are excited and restless take them to De-Bretts thermal pools for the day, they can hit the water park / water-slide for a few hours while you soak in the hot pools, get a massage, relax.
You are also right in the middle of adventure tourist country and there is loads to do in the local area.
Enjoy your stay.
Tip for travelers to NZ don't leave valuables in your car.

Room Tip: The rooms are basic with two king beds in a single room or two joining rooms. Try to get a room look...
