“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2011

The lodge was situated by the lake Taupo. Beautiful view from the rooms, tasteful breakfasts and nice host and hostess. We really enjoyd our stay! The rooms are very nice, modern and furnished with taste. Best of the lodges durin our 2 week trip in New Zealand. The hotel should be rated higher, meaning 5 stars lodge in NZ.

Susan and Tony are exceptional hosts. They are friendly but have set the house up so that as guests you have as much privacy as you desire. They pour nice wine during cocktail hour and Susan makes the best breakfast I had in two weeks in New Zealand. My wife and I stayed at a lot of wonderful places including Cape Kidnappers and Kauri Cliffs. Wharewaka was easily the best value of the trip.

Being at Wharewaka Lodge, away from the hustle and bustle of Taupo, but mostly being with Susan and Tony was the only way to go! They gave us great suggestions on restaurants and activities and were just overall excellent hosts. The bedrooms were just great with comfortable beds, good looking decor and were very private. The bathrooms had very modern hardware/cabinets/etc.

Of our 11 nights on a golfing trip - without challenge the highlight was our stay with Susan and Tony. We spent a delightful 3 days at this true home stay. The attention to detail is spectacular from the specialty teas and artisan water in the fridge through bathroom products to pre-dinner drinks and canapes.
Add to this Susan and Tony's hospitality that extended to everything including making dinner reservations, advice and organisation of tours, directions and helpful travel (shopping) hints and a really memorable New Year's Eve dinner party with other guests.
It will be a stay by which I compare all similar stays in future.

During our 6 week tour of NZ, Wharewaka Lodge was easily the best accommodation we stayed in. The Lodge is beautifully designed, decorated and equipped. Susan & Tony are wonderfully convivial hosts and welcomed us into their home. Food, comfort, attention to detail and so on were marvellous - in a word unimprovable!

We stayed just three short nights with Susan and Tony Dalby and could have stayed a lifetime. We were made very welcome the moment we arrived (late)and this hospitality was evident throughout our stay...from the beautifully cooked breakfasts...plenty of choice, fresh fruit, cereals, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon...all well presented. All rooms are tastefully decorated with everything anyone could need....check out the "stick teas". The overall standards were exceptional, spotlessly clean. Susan has a great eye for detail and colour matching...Go there as soon as you can....More of a home than a homeststay !David and Caroline Greenwood
