“Great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012 via mobile

Stayed in a superior lodge normally worth $280 a night (would never pay that) I paid $117 half price Wotif sale and would only pay that... Very clean, nice would definately stay again at a good price. To me it's a nice caravan style park it definately is 5 star for a caravan site not a hotel ... But it's great for kids and it was clean and good room ! Just $280 is a hefty prIce tag :)

Stayed here twice, first time in a spa chalet, second in the Lake Villa. Both are well furnished and spacious enough for a small family (we stayed the first time with our 2yr old daughter, the 2nd time with the mother-in-law as well). Beds are comfortable, nice clean and fluffy towels, great powerful showers etc.

The spa area is showing its age but for 10 bucks (guest rate) you can stay all day, jump in and out of the mineral / normal pools, zoom down the (blood-curdlingly) fast water slide and play in the kids water area. That's a pretty good deal in my book. Oh and they weren't crowded either so maybe other visitors were there in school hols?

Final tip - the Eggs Benedict are amongst the best I've ever eaten - and this is from someone who would happily eat Eggs bene for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

We have just returned from an excellent weekend at DeBretts Taupo. From the time of booking until our checkout, the customer service was the best. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The motel unit was excellent value for money and so clean. Will definately be returning in the very near future. Thanks DeBretts.

Room Tip: The motel units are the best value for money.

Of course, the cheapest price attracted our attention when we booked this hotel. The rooms are very clean and warm. There is a well-equipped kitchen cuisine. We could see the lake from the window because the hotel was on the hill. Hot pools look a bit messy, but my daughter really liked the free waterslide. For budget accommodation it is the perfect choice. Do not forget, the reception is only open until 8:30 pm

I didn't stay at DeBretts, but did spend a day in heaven at their amazing spa. Naturally hot water cascades into beautiful pools which are cleaned daily, so NOT chlorinated, but rich in minerals nutritious to the skin. A beautiful location. I'd have given 5 (or 10!) stars, but was bothered by the loud and absolutely tasteless music piped over the area. When I complained, they were very kind and switched it off, saying I wasn't the first person to complain. So if this happens to you, just let them know it's not OK. The treatments I had were absolutely first-class - a lovely little beauty area right next to the pools, and the practitioners were truly expert. A fabulous day out. Entry to the pools is complimentary if you have treatments booked, and otherwise also very reasonable. There's a cafe too.

had a wonderful stay staff very friendly.nice breakfast.nice to know somethings do not get changed to much have been on many overseas trips and several cruises and dollar for dollar debretts is very good value.did not find the distance to taupo at all bad or the lake unless you have elderly with you.the chalet we were in was large enough and very comfortable.it was above average for the money you had to pay.it is 5star but should be looked at in the context of 5star holiday camp not as 5star hilton next door would stay again without hesitation

Room Tip: pick a chalet behind reception as is close to everything

The spa pools have been around for a long time and could do with a make over, although they staff were friendly.
We stayed with our campervan and it felt like we were all packed in like sardines.
Had the usual amenities expected, laundry, token kiddies play park, cooking, showers/toilets.
