“Feels like home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2005

We stayed at the Tauhara Sunrise on our third night of an eight day journey from Auckland to Wellington by car. After a long day of viewing the numerous geothermal sights between Rotorua and Taupo, we were extremely relieved to enter the warm and comfortable atmosphere at Tauhara Sunrise.
Becky and her lovely family provide a perfectly relaxing atmosphere with a sense of class and style that make this B&B one of the best I have stayed at. After dropping our things in the 'White Cliffs King Suite' and went upstairs and sank deep into the plush comfortable couches and warmed ourself in front of the fireplace while Becky brought us baked brie with crackers and a glass of Chardonnay. The other couple who was staying in the 'Lake Taupo Queen Suite' came in shortly thereafter and we sat and chatted while Becky kept our wine glasses full all at the same time preparing dinner. From the roasted sweet chili chicken perfectly paired with a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and chocolate mousse for dessert, and the home-made yogurt, stewed fruit and fresh-baked muffins for breakfast -- this stay was a culinary treat!
Overall our stay was very comfortable. Our room was very spacious and full of ammenities. My personal favorite was the dual control electric blankets on the plush king-sized bed! I might have chosen the 'lake taupo queen suite' over the King suite we stayed in because the lesser price did not seem to make a huge difference when it came to comfort and ammenities.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2005

We had a lovely stay. It is a small lodge with only three guest rooms. Our room was very tastefully decorated (like the lodge). The views across Lake Taupo were beautiful. The room/lodge was thoughtfully outfitted.

Becky, the hostess, was very pleasant and a wonderful cook. We stayed for dinner and the meal was wonderful.

There is a hot tub/spa on the deck that overlooks the Lake - a very relaxing setting.

Breakfast was also very good!

I would recommend the Tauhara Sunrise to those people looking for a nice place in Taupo to stay. I am not normally a B&B person, but I thoroughly enjoyed my evening here.
