Outstanding lodge to spend a night or two away from the typical cold hotel. Becky and Rob were enjoyable hosts who like treating their guests with warm hospitality and conversation over a glass of wine. Great location to see the lake from your bedroom window. Lodge and gardens were a work of art and beauty that really puts you in a relaxed state and is much more than typical B & B's. The Lodge draws interesting guests from all over the world. Met a very delightful couple from England during our stay. It's a place you never want to leave and want to come back often.

Room Tip: The detached unit provides for a unique excusive environment.

Becky was the perfect hostess. From the moment we arrived we felt at home. Becky very kindly put us in the cottage where we were able to bring food in and really relax as if we were in our own home. This was very welcomed after having done the Tongariro Hike earlier in the day!
Must not miss the drinks and nibbles in early evening. Lovely couple/hosts. Thank you Becky and Rob.

The Lodge enjoys stunning views over the lake and is a short drive to the town and amenities. The local restaurant / bistro is very good and is only a stroll from the Lodge. Becky was extremely welcoming and was the perfect host throughout our short stay at Tauhara Lodge. Our room was perfect and we had the benefit of a shared, well appointed kitchen which contained a well stocked fridge, all provided free of charge. Drinks and nibbles in the late afternoon was a nice touch and breakfast was extensive and of the highest quality. We wished we had booked for longer!!!

We stopped here for a night on the way from Auckland to Hawks Bay. rob and Becky are wonderful hosts, cocktail hour with them and another couple from England out of in the deck overlooking Lake yahoo was delightful. comfortable beds, freshly iron 1000 count sheets..what else could you ask for. Oh yes, breakfast and that was lovely as well.

Room Tip: There are three rooms.. A free standing honeymoon suite, a King and a queen that face the lake. We...

There is not much more that I can add! Becky was kind enough to put us in the cottage....absolutely amazing....the views, amenities, fireplace, bathroom with a dual shower....not a thing missing! Great chat with our hosts led to great wine finds and more. Wished we could have spent a couple days there....the BEST of all our accommodations! Thanks Becky and Rob!

My wife and I spent two wonderful nights here. It was part of a week in NZ and we stayed in Taupo due to its close proximity (1 hr drive) to Tongariro Crossing. Still, Taupo has plenty to do in town (lots of restaurants and shopping) and the surrounding are (Rotorua) which was a plus because we had inclement weather and had to postpone our hike. Becky was amazing and made us banana nut bread and granola for breakfast because we left around 5am for our hike and wouldn't be around for her breakfast. We couldn't have been happier with our decision and our stay was perfect! The only downside was we were so busy enjoying the outdoors we didn't get to use the hot tub, which has an amazing view of the lake. Rob and Becky were amazing hosts and even had a complimentary happy hour with drinks of our choice and appetizers around 6pm each night. This provided us a chance to sample some local wine as well as talk to Rob and Becky and learn more about the area, good choices to eat, etc.We were really fortunate to be the only guests because Becky upgraded us to the honeymoon suite, which was amazing and the nicest accommodations we had on our entire two week honeymoon!! The view of Lake Taupo from our room (and soaking tub) was amazing and the bathroom was huge. The view was so great that both nights we went into town to get take-out, to enjoy the view from our room. The location was perfect, being only about a 3 minute drive from town, but far enough away to be quiet at night.

If you come to this area to hike the Tongariro crossing the only advice we can give is to make sure you stay long enough to have multiple days to do the hike depending on weather. On the day we were supposed to hike, it rained 1.5 inches and so we couldn't go. We did the half the hike the next day (to Emerald lakes and back) but then had to drive 4.5 hours to Whitianga afterwards making for an awesome but very tiring day. We really would have liked to have been able to stay a 3rd night and finally enjoy the hot tub!

Went for our honeymoon in early October and it was truly great. The wife & I hadn't ever stayed at a B&B but this was just what we needed. Ready to chat and recommend things around town when we needed and more than happy to leave us to ourselves when we wanted it too. The food was absolutely impeccable (including some of the best orange juice I've ever tasted).

Tauhara Sunrise has sweeping views of the lake and town. They were even kind enough to upgrade us to the honeymoon suite, it would've been worth the extra expense for the private cottage, complete with fireplace, tub and amazing views.

Room Tip: honeymoon suite is worth the upgrade!
