“Be Low Par”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Whilst the Staff were very polite ad helpful this venue was a big disappointment, the properties are in need of a major makeover and need to be better cleaned. Noise is a big problem if you are in a unit that links with another unit. Our next door visitors arrived late at night and they might as well have been in the same unit as us, we could hear every word they said. Another major downer was the fact that the on site restaurant was only open for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday despite not mentioning this in the online information, in actual fact the online info gives the impression that this facility os open all the time which was our main reason for booking. Overall poor value and not recommended by us under any circumstances.

"We had our wedding weekend celebration exclusively at Huka Falls Resort in February 2013. The Management were exceptionally professional, helpful and went far beyond their duties, ensuring our special weekend was memorable in every detail. From the informal meal for immediate family on the Friday, in the beautiful wine cellar, to the wedding ceremony in Lovers Knot, through to the reception in Rangartira and Acacia rooms on the Saturday, to finishing with a picnic at our villa on the Sunday.

Stunning scenery, fabulous resort, delicious meals, and impeccable attention to detail and service. An absolute must for couples wanting a venue, that not only promises a turn-key solution, but then delivers in every way"

Thanks so very much. Look forward to booking to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.

Was lucky enough to attend a 50th Wedding Anniversary here 2 weeks ago and could not be happier with how amazing and attentive the Owners of this stunning venue were. They have apparantly recently taken back the reins and along with some brilliant staff made our day and the days leading up to this event stress free.

They were incredibly helpful and managed to take all the stress out of it for us, would highly recommend them and the food is just yummy!

This venue has improved significantly - previous problems mentioned in reviews are a thing of the past!!
We had an anniversary last week. The owners Phil and Liz have taken back "control" of the resort and the change is immense. From having great difficulty getting things organised and right by the previous manager we had a fantastic time.
Liz met me and immediately adddressed all my previous concerns - she was friendly professional, courteous and could not have been better! everything was checked, done to high standard and done right!
Several people who have worked with Liz and Phil previously have come back to work with them and the whole atmosphere has changed to one of professionalism and laughter.
Special mention to Linda - thank you for making my parents day! Fantasic organisation
Speical mention to Maureen - your laughter is infectious! and your professionalism brilliant
Cassie - thanks for all the hard work and not minding that we ran late
Nothing was too much trouble for these ladies
The villas were neat and tidy and very comfortable
WELL DONE team - we had guests from Australia, Wales Ireland and from all over NZ - they had a fantastic time and loved the staff and venue

We stayed at the “resort” as part of a family group for a surprise birthday party. We had 12 adults and 3 children stay across 4 suites, with another 11 adults and 3 children at other properties across Taupo due to the “resort” being full.

From the outside it seems lovely. Beautiful grounds, lovely outlook, well-spaces suites to enjoy the surroundings.

Upon check-in, I should have checked straight out it seems. While I waited there was a receptionist taking a phone call which turned out to be a complaint. The receptionist did not seem to care about the caller at all, and offered no solution, nor apology. She stated that there was no management on site to take her call, and ended it there. When she “acknowledged” me which was little more than a look up she informed me that my room may not be ready. Check-in is advertised from 2pm on a Friday, and we were checking in just after 4pm. I would expect my room to be ready. She had to run down to the room while I was kept waiting and 2 other groups.

We found our room which was at the back of the resort. Upon entry, it became very apparent that the outside appearance did not match the inside. We were in a one-bedroom suite and were utilising a pull-out sofa for our 6 year old. The room was extremely dark, mould growing over the bath/shower, a broken toilet roll holder, very dark master bedroom, mismatched everything (cutlery, crockery, glasses etc.), terrible kitchen set up for what is advertised, and worst of all was the pull-out sofa.

It had already been pulled out for us so our son jumped on it right away. This met with complaints right away. The mattress was so thin, that you could feel the metal bars right across your back, and it sagged terribly into the middle. The floor was more comfortable, and I challenge management/owners to stay two nights on one. I bet that they would not survive one night. When I complained about the sofa, I was told that it was a common complaint and nothing could be done about it. When we tried to push the pull-out back into a sofa to sit on that was just as bad sagging in the middle. What little time that was spent in the rooms, was spent on the dining chairs. Not a comfortable stay at all. When I mentioned the toilet roll holder, again all I got was “just another one then”.

When we were playing outside with our son we were harassed by the next door neighbours dogs (about 6 of them) constantly barking.

When we checked out there were two people in front of me complaining about a variety of issues. When I came to pay I was not greeted, I was not asked how my stay was, and I was not thanked upon payment. All I got was “$xxx.xx”. When I asked if she would like to know how our stay was, she simply shrugged her shoulders so I left. I have stayed at camp sites that ask how your stay was and they look forward to positive / constructive feedback to improve upon.

Every single person in our group had issues here. They will not refund money even though we could not use the sofa bed we paid extra for. Other people in our group all had sofa issues, and many more issues then us. No refunds were received.

To even begin to be of a resort status, the staff need customer service and communication skills training, house-keeping need either a larger team or better cleaning tools to do a quicker job, an inside refurbishment of all suites to ensure all suites are offering the same facilities (cooking, crockery, cutlery etc.) and ensure that all cutlery/crockery matches, a standards manual to ensure resort standards are met consistently to the highest standards, and for all toilet roll holders and sofa-beds to be replaced. These are simple things that are being done very well by other properties in Taupo. This “resort” is over-priced for what they are offering and given that the staff did not care about our issues (and we were very polite in our dealings with them) I will never stay here again as will no-one in my family group.

The local camp-site offered better cabins & customer service at a far cheaper cost. Customer service is severely lacking as is any ownership by management. For a venue that is catering to the overseas and wedding guest market, they need to do a lot of work to be worthy of the name “resort”. It is anything but.

Room Tip: Suites at the rear of the property (closer to the small, very cold pool) are subject to a lot of roa...

My husband,mother ( birthday girl 80th) and I stayed in villa #1.
The villa was fine big and spacious however there where some minor issues with the room.
As mentioned below there was an issue with the BBQ as we were led to believe that there was more than 1 and it wasn't neccessary to book one and no mention of cost.
Will OMG was told to use the BBQ it is $150!!!
You have got to be joking, most places you get the use of a BBQ for free.
Anyway, on departure I went to pay our bill and mentioned the few issues we had and the receptionist gave a couldn't care less attitude.
She didn't greet me when I went in didn't ask how our stay was or even say goodbye!
Her attitude was appalling and needs serious customer service training or look for another job if she hates it so much.
I also suspect that they do not have enough cleaners as my newphew was told he couldn't go into villa #1 as the previous people had just left there this was around 4.00pm
What an outright lie! We were in that villa and left shortly after 10.00am.
As a kiwi I am not enjoying writing this but I don't want other travellers especially overseas visitors to experience what we all did.
I have to say on a positive note we had dinner at Cafe Pinot and the service and food was impeccable well done!
Might I suggest that the resort send their staff over to the restaurant and learn what good customer service is.
Even a friendly smile goes along way.

We stayed at the 'resort' as part of a Wedding party. The room was comfortable enough & clean, however on the first night the smoke alarm in the adjoining room (we had only taken the studio) was beeping, this is not a good sign of well maintained & safe rooms! The next day I discovered the light in the bathroom over the mirror did not work so had to call reception to fix this, again the room's not being checked properly when serviced, we left housekeeping to clean the room only to return to discover they had not left us any clean towels. No sound proofing separating rooms & one set of steps onto the 'deck' meant the neighbours were going past our doors constantly, no net curtains for privacy, drapes closed or nothing.
The resort markets itself as a wedding venue but there isn't any way for the wedding party or guests to walk to the chapel from the rooms, that is not on dusty loose stones or uneven grass which had been mown without a catcher.
Inside the reception venue was set up beautifully, but the outside of the building was filthy & no dry seating (outdoor furniture was left out in the rain not moved to the veranda in the dry) was provided.

Room Tip: Rooms near the back of the property are subject to a lot of noise from the main road
