“Pleasant retreat with nice views”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2012

Though we visited during the off season where little was in bloom, the park was nevertheless worth the visit. Numerous short, easy to walk trails invite one to stroll through beautiful foliage, bird life abound. Benches at some points offer a rest, some with a view out to Lake Taupo. Entry is free, and even just a drive-through is worthwhile.

Nice walk but wouldn't say its a botanic garden. Nice walk through trees and shrubs

“Tranquil and inspiring”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2012

This is the first 'drive-thru' botanical gardens I've been in, and I found this really emphasized the feeling that man is a visitor in Nature's Garden, beholden to it. The trees are just stunning - so gracious, tall and beautiful. Many beautiful vistas, too. The walks really give a feeling of a much-beloved garden - cool, shady, full of healthy and variegated plants. The garden is maintained entirely by volunteers, which is impressive. A great outing. There are toilets, but no cafe or water fountain, so take a picnic to have at one of the lay-bys!
