The falls were a nice thing to see. There is one main section that is a giant rapid,,it is not a huge cascading waterfall, so don't get your expectations up. From the parking lot, you go over a bridge and can look at the falls. If you take a left over the bridge, you can walk to a viewing area about 100 yards down. I also saw a sign for a longer (2+ hour) hike that looked rather technical. If you take a right after going over the bridge, the is a 45 minute hike that is beautiful. Parts of it fell like lush rain forest and other parts a little more open. rolling up and down hills, culminating at a hot spring creek that dumps into the river. We were there on a cloudy day and there were about 20 people sitting in different pools enjoying the hot water. This is a good half-day excursion if you are in the Lake Taupo area.
