“Absolutely Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We stayed 3 nights with John and Ruth, our room was spacious, with lovely views and beautiful gardens. The most memorable part of our stay was the Looooong breakfasts. In John and Ruth's house, or more correctly mansion, you are treated as family. So we had the pleasure of sharing breakfast with our hosts, where we would discuss our day and what we wanted to see. Soon the conversation turned to other things and time would slip by as we talked about common interests. Thanks so much John and Ruth for a wonderful and memorable 3 days.

“Five Star”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

A very comfortable modern family home with beautiful gardens. Our hosts John & Ruth greeted us on our arrival with tea and biscuits served in the lounge. A very welcome start to our stay with them for two nights. Our bedroom with views to the gardens and swimming pool was spacious with an extremely comfortable bed and ensuite bathroom. The excellent breakfast choices were delicious and as we were the only guests we were also able to enjoy the company of our easy going hosts. Their advice and recommendations on things to do and choice of restaurants to visit added to our five star stay with them. They even included a very drinkable bottle of wine on the tray with the tea & coffee facilities.

“Homestay Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

Our family of 4 (2 kids 10 & 12) stayed in 2 rooms for 1 night in Taupo. John & Ruth were lovely and went to the trouble of ringing the local attractions to check for availability for us over Easter.Large comfortable bedrooms upstairs and free wifi were much appreciated after our stay in hotels.

“Unexpected Delight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 29, 2012

My husband and I stayed at The Pillars for one night. Our hosts John and Ruth Boddy greeted us with a lovely cup of tea and home-made cookies. This very amenable couple have taken great care with their immaculate mansion and grounds, which features lovingly manicured fur trees, well-trimmed gardens, and a glistening pool which was inviting, despite the cool weather. Our room was very spacious with a large ensuite, and the bed was very comfortable and warm. Breakfast was elegantly served with both hot and cold options at the ready. Coffee hounds will love their brew! Our hosts were a very sociable couple and provided us with an interesting cultural history of the area, and tips for our next stop in Napier. Would definitely return to this lovely home.

“Homestay comfort at its best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2011

We stayed for three peaceful nights at the Pillars Retreat. Ruth and John greeted us on arrival, made us feel most welcome and thoughfully provided everything we could possibly need in the large and comfortable bedroom. We loved the garden, the views and having the spacious sitting room, with a wood fire, to relax in after a day of sight-seeing. Breakfasts were excellent and we enjoyed talking to the hosts and learning more about the country. Provided that you have a car, the Pillars is a great location for exploring the thermal hot spots of New Zealand.
