There is a huge jacuzzi tub in the room (and a small shower) with bubblebath supplied. The water comes from a geothermal bore. Lake Taupo is the caldera of the biggest and most destructive volcanic eruption in the last 70,000 years and there is still plenty of heat available :) We did have a sideways view of the Lake but only 2-3 units have the really optimal view towards Mt Tongariro across the Lake. The hotel is right on the waterfront. There is steam coming off the water at the beach...

There was quite a large kitchen area as well as a small balcony.

The wifi internet had crashed and so was not available. The person at the front desk said this often happened and volunteered to try to get it up again but I told her not to bother.

Stayed in Unit 5 (which has been mentioned in Tripadvisor) for two nights over a weeekend - wonderful view of the lake, pleasant interior with comfortable bed, did not use the spa bath as swam in the lake which is easily accessible outside the front of the Lodge - nice warm currents. Our friends stayed in Unit 3 which we thought was slightly better as the kitchen had a window in it and made the entry area and kitchen brighter - same view out the front. Our pick of the units would be downstairs under Unit 3 (or under Unit 5) as you have your own small garden area and can sit outside to have breakfast or a drink in the evening with the wonderful lake vista. The larger spa pool under the Lodge was great to have a soak in - perhaps a few tubs of bright shrubs or flowers would add to the area. Enjoyed our stay and found the couple taking care of the Lodge for the owners very accommodating. Would stay again. Had a great meal at the Steak and Ale House (serves chicken and fish meals also with nice salad) - ambience and service very good.

Clearwater Lodge is right on the lake, with direct access to a path running along the shore. All rooms have lake views, with most having views to the mountains to the south (the 6 rooms facing the lake have the best views). Clearwater have their own thermal hot water source, and they use it to heat a small outside hot pool, and large spa baths in every unit. Units are roomy, well furnished, clean, and comfortable. The biggest negative is (typically for NZ) expensive WiFi, which you pay for based on how much you download. We have stayed at Clearwater before, and would definitely do so again.

Great place to get the best view of the lake and the snow capped Tongariro in the backgroung. It is right in front of the hot water beach, and far enough away from the road to be quiet. It has everything you need and the in room spa is very relaxing. Room 5 has the best views
