We had a really pleasant stay here recently. We had dinner in their Edgewater restaurant which was first class. The breakfast was also top marks. Will defintiely stay again.

Haha - in all seriousness the breakfast deserves a special mention, the food available so so damn good I ate too much and was full for the whole day. My wife enjoyed it also and the views from the restaurant were so nice.
We arrived late in the evening after a delayed flight into Wellington and after the 4hr drive we were very agitated and tired however as soon as we arrived the lovely gent on reception and another lady put us straight at ease. They offered to get us into the restaurant even though it was literally packing up for the night but we declined and ordered room service which was also very very good. We were so looked after it was a shame we only stayed one night but the room was world class and the whole place screams class. Thank you to all the team and keep up the good work.

Dear Dan and Sarah - what a lovely review, thank you for sharing your experience. Breakfast sounds delicious - hope you were here on one of the beautiful still mornings we have - one of my favourite times to look out over the lake. I will pass on your comments about our friendly team - they always appreciate it.
Cheers

We stayed here for four nights and were given a beautiful spacious room overlooking the lake. We couldn't have asked for better. The room was immaculate. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and seemed to want to oblige. Even free wifi in the lounge area. If we return to New Zealand again the Millennium Hotel wil have to be on our agenda. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: It has got to be a Lake View!

We stayed at Millenium as part of our honeymoon. We arrived earlier than we expected and the reception very kindly stored our luggage, flagged our room as a priority for cleaning and took our mobile number to text us when it was ready. We received a text within an hour. On checking in, we were informed that we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite - Queen because it was our honeymoon. The room was beautiful and the view simply stunning. We ended up ordering room service for two nights because it was just so peaceful and relaxing to spend time on the balcony overlooking the lake. We also did the Tongariro crossing while staying in Taupo and the bus collects you and drops you off right outside the hotel (which is a huge bonus given that it collects you at 5.30am!) The location of the hotel is such that it is easier to get into town by car but we did walk in one night and half of the walk is right beside the lake so it is a pleasant stroll. We really didn't want to leave Millenium and would definitely stay there again if we returned to Taupo in the future.

Room Tip: Definitely get a room with a lake view!

The hotel is about 4km outside the town, in a very narrow strip between the main road and the lakeside path. Consequently it is long and narrow, both of the accomodation "arms" being two storeys high and one room deep. So one side of the room opens onto the carpark and road (the main road within 40 feet of the room door at our end of the hotel), the other onto the lake with great views.

Having read other reviews we had specifically asked for a first floor room when our booking was made 5 months before our stay and one was not available when we arrived. We did not feel very secure in our ground floor room as passers by walked directly past the front and the back doors (the lakeside path is less than 10 feet away - and they do look in!), and the room is full of warnings about closing the curtains, locking up, etc etc. The room was quite dark, only having windows on the lakeside. Security considerations (and the hotel's own guidance) meant we could only use airconditioning for cooling, a bit noisy at night but inefficient when on quiet mode. The road noise was also disturbing.

It was comfortable though. Staff were very friendly, and the restaurant is excellent - we ate dinner there twice (not cheap but a nice treat). Breakfast is expensive, although a good spread - if you are hungry go for it, we found we needed very little lunch after that which probably compensated for the cost.

I don't think I would go back there unless I was guaranteed a first floor room, and I would want to be at the end of the hotel which is on the "fatter" bit of land so that I was slightly farther from the road. However if your main concern is walking out of your room straight onto the lakeside, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: If you share our security concerns or want a window open, insist on a first floor room. Also ask fo...

Dear Linzini - I do appreciate you taking the time to write of the good and not so good. Yes I can understand you would be disappointed about privacy on the lake edge ground floor when you specifically asked for first floor. Unfortunately I can not research why you were not granted your request becauses of the privacy of your details. Guest satisfaction is absolute priority to us and we will do whatever, whenever to ensure this. Please accept my sincere apologies for this case. I am happy you did experience our dining - we are proud of of long standing excellent reputation for quality and service in Edgewater and Beach Brasserie.
A personal contact with next booking will guarantee a room on first floor.
Kind regards
Diane

The hotel is by the lake side about 2 miles from town, the room was great with patio to sit on and enjoy the magnificent view across the lake.Swimming pool was more like a hot bath. Restaurant had good quality food but we tended to eat in town, breakfast good with lots of choice. You can walk along path beside the lake into town & if you go into the lake at key points the water is hot at feet and cold on top wierd. From the town you can also walk along the river to Huka Falls a really powerful falls being channelled through a small gap. On the way you can bathe in a small bay in the river that is fed by hot spring.

Room Tip: If you choose ground floor room you get the best outlook and patio.
