“OK and affordable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

This is one of the first things you need to do as you will be disappointed if visit other attractions first. Is worth a look but it is not spectacular.

“Fascinating to see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

A very handy walkway is available around the mud pools, which makes life easier of you are pushing a wheelchair or children's pushchair. Viewing points along the way help you to see the mudpools close up and watch the steam rise from the ground.

“A nice stroll around a geothermal park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

This attraction is less well known than Wai-o-Tapu or the geothermal park in Rotorua (Te Puia) however, the cost of entry was much cheaper compared to Rotorua. The park makes for a nice easy walk across a boardwalk with a few different features including steam vents, bubbling mud pools and craters. There's an optional scenic walk up a hill towards the end where you get a good view over Rotorua and Lake Taupo.

We didn't think it was very much like being on the moon but we still had a good time. It's a smaller park than Wai-O-Tapu but if you haven't been there this gives you a good expeirence of the geothermal activity.

“Not a must do”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

This attraction used to be free, then it was good value! Obviously there have been upgrades to visitor facilities from an accessibility and safety point of view over the last few years and charges have followed but while this is an interesting geological area it is not in the same ballpark as other thermal attractions nearer Rotorua.

There have been accidents in thermal areas so a degree of caution is justified but signs warning of the dire consequences of setting foot past the barriers look silly when the area in question has obviously just been mown. I'd spend my cash

“Not worth the effort”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

This is the first time I have ever felt ripped off when visiting a tourist attraction. I wanted to stand in the car park and warn others not to waste their money. Although only $8 per adult to enter, it was a total waste of time and money.
A large desolate area with steam rising in places and that was it. You can see as much for free as you travel the main roads! You could hear bubbling mud underground in a few places but only got to see two small mud pools, at a distance.
It does not compare with other thermal areas which have more impressive features and you can get closer to larger, more active, mud pools.
It does have a good track to walk on though so easy for wheelchairs and push chairs.
